Need your help to visualize a character
« on: April 07, 2019, 12:02:44 PM »
Can you help me visualize a character?

The character is Isabella Sanchez, a black woman of Mexican heritage. Afro hairdo. 163cm (5ft 4in). Slim but not anorexic. 39 years old. Dark.

Do you know a Latina celebrity who fits that description? Prefer Mexican or Colombian but any black woman from Central or South America or the Caribbean can work. Even Brazilian, Trinidad and Tobago, or Curacao. Not Guyana. Not Spain.

Please give me a name, and I will run the search for images. Thank you.

Background: I write in Scrivener and keep files on some characters. I pin photos in those files to help me 'see' the character. For example, Aggie McGlockton looks like Idris Elba with an extra 10 kilos (22 pounds). I find this helps me see the characters move, act, and talk. YMMV.

I'm not sure a Mexican black woman would look different from an American black woman... I find a lot of Brazilian black people are lighter than American black people, but it might be due to more intermixing. I think it's the same in Mexico.

Anyway, there's a Brazilian actress who I think fits your physical description: Taís Araújo, if you want a beautiful woman.

Interesting idea to try to find pics to visualize a character.

Oh, there's also Pathy Dejesus. She's the right age:

Denise, Thank you. Obrigado.

It's not that they look so much different, but it's the way Latina and Brazilian women carry themselves. I know the difference is there, and it changes the way I think about the character.

Taís Araújo's skin tone in the role of Preta is about right. Her current age is spot on. I like her Afros. She is an excellent candidate for the image for Isabella.

FWIW I was using images of Mia Love. I respect and admire Mia Love, but her image did not fit the character, and I knew it. That hindered me.
