Most of the people that I've seen use it said it cost way too much and didn't even come close to paying for itself.

A friend and I (in the same genre) recently had one of each. I had a Bookbub featured deal. He ran a new releases for less.

I'm a month out from my Bookbub featured deal and am still seeing tail. It paid for itself, and all the promo stacked around it, within 3-4 days.

My friend's new release for less, he paid $250, and had 230 sales the day of at 99 cents, plus a bit of a page read tail.
