AMS Ads - Sponsored Products vs. Product Display Ads
« on: September 29, 2018, 01:29:19 AM »
What are your thoughts on the efficacy of AMS sponsored products vs. product display ads?

Which do you use?

Do you find one advertisement type generates more interest (views, sales, and/or clicks)?

I have always used sponsored products ads. My ads generally run around 15 to 40% on ACoS. Lately, I have found my sales numbers dropping and am looking for ways to improve sales and ad performance.

Thanks for the insight and different perspectives!

Both did well for me a couple years ago. I don't bother with product display anymore. The bid cost is too high, the time to set the ad up is too long, and the results are not good.

Caveat 1) This is going to be highly genre and niche dependent.
Caveat 2) AMS ads in general have been tanking hard for me lately. Or maybe the reporting has gotten even worse. All I know is that my overall sales performance continues status quo,
but the ads are getting fewer clicks and just about zero reported purchases.

What's the deal with the $100 commitment on the Product Sponsored ads?  If you don't spend it by the end of the campaign (six months maximum) do they bill you the full $100 anyway?

Thanks for the help.

Also Tokki, I like your bunny.  We have two dutch rabbits.

No, they don't bill you for it. I tried two Product Display ads and they just didn't do anything. They didn't get shown at all until I shortened the ad period--so in theory the budget could be spent by Amazon more quickly--and even then they did about nothing. With a budget of $200 per ad, I couldn't get Amazon to spend anything at all on one ad and just under $11 on the other. I got about 19k impressions, 100 clicks, and three sales. A big $7 in revenue against $11 spent. Not a success, but not a huge financial bath. By comparison, my Sponsored Product ad for one of those titles--a three-year-old book--has racked up over 4.5 million impressions in two years and moved all the books in the series, plus KU reads.
