IngramSpark - A simple question...
« on: May 29, 2022, 02:58:01 AM »
Before you flame me, I know this is a question with an open-ended pool of responses. What is your response to this question:

Is listing paperbacks with IngramSpark a necessary expense?

Draft2digital uses Ingram Spark. And they're totally free.
Genres: Space Opera/Fantasy/Cyberpunk, with elements of LitRPG and GameLit, with a touch of the Supernatural. Also Spiritual and Games.

It depends entirely on why you'd want to do it. You don't have to use IS at all and, in fact, most people don't.

Depends what you mean by expense. I've uploaded 25 paperbacks, 25 hardcovers and 24 large print books to IS and never paid them a cent. Mind you, I'm a member of ALLi and get 5 free uploads a month, so that is an expense, but as with all such things, its deductible from income at tax time. My annual ALLi membership fees are the equivalent of two uploads to IS, and I get 60 a year free. If I'd paid for every upload, I'd be in the hole based on sales numbers and wouldn't have bothered. Make of that what you will.

I use D2D... but not for print.  Hmmmm.

UPDATE: Nothing on D2D here gives me access to IS.  Here is the list of D2D partners:

Amazon
Apple Books
Barnes & Noble
Kobo
Scribd
Tolino
OverDrive
bibliotheca
Baker & Taylor
BorrowBox
Hoopla
Vivlio

I will explore the Alli route.

D2D uses Ingram to distribute.
I use Ingram because I've heard that D2D does not distribute as well as Ingram. But...  :shrug If this is not what others have found, I'll consider D2D.
I've had issues in the past with Ingram and I'm always looking for new sellers. I think Eric ^^ got me into the idea of using Alli. That gives you coupons for free Ingram use (of course, you have to pay for the yearly membership).

If you're a member then you have nothing to lose. It's in there: coupons: production & distribution.
