Anyone know of a way to remove businesses/places of interest from Google maps, so that all you get is street names?

I think that feature has been removed. It's only all labels on or off.

Depending on your needs, Google Earth might be a workaround for you. It has a Custom option which still lets you toggle everything on or off individually. But it does look a little different.

Might be worth noting that you have to secure a license to use Google Maps images commercially.

All I need is a street plan (with names). Google Earth, wonderful as it is, is way too much for what I'm after.
