Some fun things to watch on the internet while isolated
« on: March 16, 2020, 12:52:24 AM »
I thought we could start a list of places on the web that are serving interesting content for us while we self-isolate.

The Monterey Bay Aquarium has live cams (10AM - 10PM Pacific Time)
https://www.montereybayaquarium.org/animals/live-cams/

The Metropolitan Opera is streaming replays for free during the pandemic:
https://www.metopera.org/about/press-releases/met-to-launch-nightly-met-opera-streams-a-free-series-of-encore-live-in-hd-presentations-streamed-on-the-company-website-during-the-coronavirus-closure/

"All “Nightly Met Opera Streams” will begin at 7:30pm and will remain available via the homepage of metopera.org for 20 hours. The homepage link will open the performance on the Met Opera on Demand streaming service. The performance will also  be viewable on all Met Opera on Demand apps."

Nasa's live streams from the space station are also cool:

What a great thread - thank you.

Apparently a lot of museums also do virtual tours, so you can get your culture fix from the comfort of home - Google throws up quite a few results, but I couldn't find a decent, curated, list.

The Europeana site - https://www.europeana.eu/portal/en
has data and various features from many European museums. Also if you follow @mia_out (Dr Mia Ridge) on Twitter she has been curating some lists.

Edited to add - this is quite a good list:

Here's a tweet with a compilation list of over a dozen zoo-cams. Now people are also adding their pet-cams!

That was lovely, thank you - just what I needed!

There are other superbly talented Italian musicians doing similar youtube posts, which of course I now can't find!

For those that need their sports fix ... and you won't even have to listen to a bunch of high priced, whiny pro athletes.   grint  Watch out for Snowy in this one.

I will not forget one line of this, not one day. I will always remember when the Doctor was me.

The Winchester Mystery House has an online tour until April 7.  A few seconds in, the tour will stop and ask for your email address, but you can tell it "no."  Lots of information and some excellent "house porn"--and maybe some inspiration for your next paranormal novel.

If you're really bored Google the year you were born and "gif search" (e.g. "1953 gif search" or just go to Giphy.com).
