Iceland volcano erupts. :eek:
This wasn't a surprise. There's been an increase in earthquakes for the past several weeks, and they started evacuating folks in early November, so casualties should be low or, hopefully, nonexistent. The town of Grindavik is in some danger, but it's not a foregone conclusion that it'll be harmed.
The big question is how much stuff will be ejected into the atmosphere. Iceland's volcanoes have historically affected air travel in Europe, and enough added haze might make a cold winter even colder.
