I'm predicting a good first season (lots of source material and great effects) and then...not so much (reimagining and updating for a modern audience).

Marketing Loft [Public] / Re: Promoting on YouTube?

I don't pay for Facebook ads, but I suspect to run an ad often to the same readers, one would have to narrow their target audience to the bare minimum.

Judging by the ads I see on Facebook, 100% of which are crap I'd never want to see, FB probably don't care about targeting an audience. All they want is enough target to keep the mugs buying ads.

Now if the ads I saw were at least 50% in line with my own activity on FB, I'd see doing ads as a reasonable investment.

But a 100% failure rate in delivery, compounded by multiple ads for the same thing from different pages, and how can anyone take FB ads seriously?

Yeah, it's a scam. FB also does all they can to prevent promotion on our own pages, but I've learned to work around that with picture ads and just my website link. It's a new idea on my part, so can't be certain it's selling books, but at least FB leaves it alone. I don't know how to post a picture here or I would give you an example. I'll try an attachment.

For PJ Post on Westerns.

The Outlaw Josey Wales.

Whoever turned me on to The Highwaymen with Costner....big thanks!

Have watched it 3x.

So atmospheric. For once East Texas looked like East Texas.

For long form Western.....Lonesome Dove.

Edited to add another recommendation. Mongol. Free on YouTube.

Lonesome Dove was good, but like many things that come out of Hollywood, the book was miles better.

Eh...
Funny how I bailed on so many franchises I once faithfully followed....

Star Wars after I saw A New Hope remake The Force Awakens with Mary Sue Ray
Star Trek (reboot) after I saw The Wrath of Khan remake Into Darkness. Cumberbatch ain't no Montalban
James Bond after I saw the Daniel Craig version of Spectre. Blofeld was never so bland.
I gave up on The Hobbit after #2... How can you make 3 movies out of Tolkien's shortest book? Of course, invented characters like Tauriel didn't help

I probably won't watch Daniel Villeneuve's Dune. The danger signals are there for anyone to see. I first read Dune in the late 70s and have a deep attachment to Frank Herbert's vision.

Meh. I'm a cranky old man and can't stand anything that comes out of Hollywierd anymore, especially Disney properties.

I wanted to give up on The Hobbit but fortunately I persisted. The third movie was like the Lord of the Rings trilogy. The Hobbit was just a bid to make money out of three movies what it clearly should have been one.

And the poisoning of Earth at the beginning of Crusade was proved to be a bad move, since the series got cancelled mid way through the first season, when it was supposed to be a 5 year plot.

The network screwing around with it was the problem.  As one example, I think it was the network that didn't like the uniforms and made them change them.  But the network also aired the shows out of order so they were wearing new uniforms before the in-universe explanation for why they had new uniforms.  And, like B5, it was a serialized story so airing episodes out of order was not good.

One of the reasons I still buy dvd's. Shows keep changing which streaming service they are on, so when you decide to re-binge, they are often not there on where-ever they were. Not ever getting a subscription to all of them.

One of the local streamers has a series which hasn't come out on dvd yet, but they only have seasons 1 and 3. What kind of insanity is that? I watched season 1, now waiting for the dvd's. The quality was terrible as well.

Buying dvd's has it sitting there when you want it, with none of this where is it streaming from now nonsense.
