I continue to watch Stargate: SG-1 and eagerly await rewatching Babylon 5 when Comet starts airing the reruns sometime this fall.
West Wing - again.
Midsomer Murders.
Midsomer Murders.
I've watched Midsomer Murders through a couple of times, but I thought this last season was a little unbelievable. Not bad to sustain a show for 20 seasons.

We're on season 12 I think, maybe 13. Netflix keeps track for us. We watch 2-3 episodes a week. It is definitely evolving as it goes along.
Jack Ryan. It was aiiight. I haven't watched "regular" TV in maybe 3 years and I've never been more sane or gotten more work done.
Upstart Crow (and a new series here featuring someone walking the routes of former railway lines - I'm afraid it's almost as quintessentially British as the one where a group of madmen built a model railway line through the Great Glen).
I recently finished watching The Americans. What a terrific show.
It's a binge-worthy series. All six seasons are (currently) on Amazon Prime. Don't blame me if you get hooked and miss your next publishing deadline.
I watched the first episode of Maniac on Netflix last night. It was ... I don't know what it was. The jury is still out and may never be back. :icon_mrgreen:

I just finished re-watching all of SG-1 (and Atlantis) last year. Never gets old!
West Wing - again.Have you tried the West Wing Weekly podcast? It's pretty cool. Episode by episode discussion, with actors and writers from the show.
Midsomer Murders - 4th or 5th series, maybe?
Father Brown - 5th series
The Closer - Again - 1st season
Burn Notice - 6th season, finally!
Right now, Dark Matter Season 1 (again).

I watched the first four seasons and loved it.
Also watching the newest season of American Horror Story. I haven't loved every season but I've watched them all since the start.
The first season of 'The Handmaid's Tale' was okay, don't think I'll be looking to see S2, however. Liked the first season of 'Stranger Things', but really disliked Season 2, don't know if I'll bother with S3.
I just started The Walking Dead, Season 8 on Netflix.
Man, this show can be frustrating.

Totally agree. I threaten to quit watching every season, and then somethingamazingawful happens, like the first time we see Michonne, or..."look at the flowers..."

The ones that stick in my mind right now: Elementary, Lucifer and Instinct.
If you have an opportunity to finish the series, I recommend it.
You won't be disappointed. ;)
Rewatching Madmen. I’m on season 7. Loved seasons 1-5 but 6 and 7? Meh.
On the lighter side, Death in Paradise can be fun. Again, gorgeous scenery, Caribbean this time. It's always a locked-room style murder, with fish-out-of water Brit detective. Kind of repetitive and predictable, but sometimes that's what I'm in the mood for.
Recently tried, and gave up on:
River (Netflix)
Luther (Netflix)
Breaking Bad (Netflix)
Broadchurch (Netflix)
I'm currently re-watching Deadwood. Loved that show.
I recently watched Battlestar Galactica for the second time.
In my opinion, it's one of the best sci-fi series out there.
(It's currently on Hulu.)

May have to revisit it sometime. I loved the first two seasons, but the rest fell flat for me. It's been a while since I watched it, though, so should probably give it another go.

I loved Death in Paradise - great fun. Seeing Cat from Red Dwarf in it was a bonus, and it took me a while to recognise the police chief as the student from Rising Damp.

When I think of Rising Damp, I think of the 70s series with the amazing Leonard Rossiter. He was also the original Reggie Perrin.

Have to find out where I can watch it again.
The ones that stick in my mind right now: Elementary, Lucifer and Instinct.
I like Elementary and like how all the main characters are portrayed by the actors. Except for how Jonny Lee Miller portrays Sherlock. To me, he seems to overact/exaggerate mannerisms. Lucy Liu is awesome.
I loved how each season in The Wire had a different focus.
All four are really worth persisting with. Breaking Bad is incredible, Luther got better, and Broadchurch (UK version) seasons 1 and 2 were great.

Tonight I'm a little brain-dead
I'm just about through Series 1 of Designated SurvivorKiefer Sutherland is such a terrible actor, that only he could play the undersecretary to HUD. He's actually not bad in Designated Survivor.
It's not bad, plenty of cliffhangers. Acting is reasonable. Kiefer Sutherland isn't any different to Jack Bauer, except he has died hair and (has he had a facelift?). The female FBI agent stays immaculate despite being thrown around a lot. She also wears heeled shoes and clip clops around in a highly unstable way - not really impressive. Still, plots are good and keep me entertained. Looking at the stats, it goes down hill in Season 2 so I'm probably going to end it at that.
I think that the final season of House of Cards dropped today, so I'm going to start watching that. I look forward to Princess Buttercup taking over.
Damn them! It was supposed to be out last year, but then the revelations happened...I think that the final season of House of Cards dropped today, so I'm going to start watching that. I look forward to Princess Buttercup taking over.

What SyFy--or whoever--really needs to do is reboot Buck Rogers. They need to keep it hopeful and inspiring, though, and not go all dark and gritty on it. And they definitely need to keep the original theme music. That stuff was awesome.

I hope there won't be a fourth series. I have such a fondness for the show as it stands that I don't want anyone to mess with it. haha
I can't remember ever encountering such great storytelling in horror!
And I've also finished Mad Men for the third time, because that show is simply the best.
Pride and Prejudice 1995. I watch that in the evening.
I loved Mad Men. Great characters. And I liked that the episodes weren't sensational. They didn't rely on plot twists to grab attention. Just good storytelling that focused on Draper and the people around him.

The Musketeers - the 2014 BBC version. The King (Louis) has such a sweet smile. I struggled with the Alexandre Dumas book, but The Three Musketeers always translates well to film or TV series. The Czech countryside (where it was filmed) is so pretty too.

Nothing like the original show. Sabrina is an unexpectedly dark supernatural adventure that embraces the satanic elements of witchcraft. It's pretty good, but the tone is somewhat uneven, like it can't decide what it wants to be. It's from the same people that did The CW's Riverdale (same world even, Riverdale gets a few mentions in the show), which, unsurprisingly, suffered from the same problem. It veers wildly between a Disney channel show and True Blood. As a side note, the lead (Kiernan Shipka) looks way too much like Hermione, (I mean Emma Watson) - both of them the greatest witches of their generation, by the way. The whole show is like this, it's either incredibly derivative or constantly winking at us. My other 'complaint' is that the show doesn't always let the drama breathe, wrapping up scenes so quickly that they end up leaving plenty of suspense on the cutting room floor.
Nevertheless, a solid 6 or 7 out of 10.
:tup3b
Watched the first two episodes of the new Sabrina and I gotta say I’m not impressed. It was all very meh and that blur effect they overuse is annoying. The Sabrina and Harvey relationship is a total snoozefest in this one.
The original Sabrina was much better at the lighthearted moments. Plus, it had a talking Salem! The darker aspects of witchcraft reminded me of Salem (WGN show) and were much better done in that show.
Not sure if I’ll finish this TBH. I love witch shows (even the new Charmed is getting better after the awful premiere episode) but this is just not doing it for me. I might watch it if I have nothing else to watch, but I can’t say I care either way whether I see it again.
:catrun

Shoot, I don't get CW.
You heard right, it's in the last episode of part one. But yeah, if you're not into the show it can be hard to force yourself to watch. I can see the weaknesses in the show, but I was interested enough to keep going anyway. I'm hoping some of the writing will be rectified as the show goes on, if it lasts that long :shrug It has potential :-)
It was Halloween and I just happened to watch episodes 3 of two new witch shows: Charmed and Sabrina!
I’m really starting to like Charmed. They’re improving with every episode.
And, I thought episode 3 of Sabrina was the best yet! Maybe because it mostly focused on the witch world? Even Harvey became a bit more interesting because of his crappy home life.
Found that I could download the CW app to my Roku and I've been watching Charmed. The first episode was better than I expected and I'm on the third episode now. The only problem I have is the repetitive commercials. They'll repeat the same commercial anywhere from 2-6 times in a row. If I can get past that, I'll keep watching.
Just started watching this. And I'm surprised by how much I enjoy it. I think it's because both the script and the acting is really excellent. I can't figure out why I care about the main character as he is clearly an absolutely self centered snob, but for some reason, I do. I'm curious how exactly the writers did that.

I record all my shows so I can skip the commercials. Having to sit through commercials would drive me mad. Though I guess you could always turn them into mini writing sprints!
If you have Netflix, all CW shows go up there 8 days after the season ends on TV.

I managed to watch the first episode free here in the UK (a TV Guide sent a link to watch it) but never saw the other eps as I don't have Sky TV. Thought Cumberbatch was fantastic in the role.
I've been catching up on Outlander. Still on series 1 but a few eps away from the prison episode (I've read the first five books so know what's coming). Great to see so many genuinely Scottish actors in it. Unfortunately the actress playing Gheillis Duncan had a dodgy Scots accent.
I've also caught up with The Man in the High Castle. Gosh, series 4 is going to be good!
They got very graphic between Jamie and Black Jack so I skipped that episode. My only disappointment in the season was the Abbey. They diluted the scene between Jamie and Claire where she made him think she was Black Jack and made him fight back. It would have been a fantastic scene. Instead, they just had a conversation. Other than that, Ron Moore has done a wonderful job and added scenes that really enhanced the story.

You skipped that episode? But it’s the thing that makes it so different from all the other romances out there. The fact that they were willing to go there with the male hero. It’s been a while since I’ve seen it, but Claire did dress up as Black Jack and used his scent to provoke a reaction out of Jamie to help him heal after the incident.
I’m not a book reader, so I can only comment on the TV series, but I loved the first two seasons. I thought season 3 was very uneven. I don’t get Starz, so I watch the show when it comes out on Blu-ray, so I can’t join the discussion on the new season.

Regarding your spoiler, I feel the same. Haven't read the last two(?) books as I didn't enjoy them as much as the earlier ones.

I thought about writing something clever about the story or the lack thereof, or maybe the lack of characterization or even the over the top artistic self-indulgence, but nope, just going with something simple...
Sucks. Lots.
You’re not missing out on much. The only show I can say I honestly love on that channel is Legends of Tomorrow!
Gasp! How can you watch Legends without at least also watching Arrow and Flash?
Ha, guess I can't really say much on the whole keep-up-with-the-Arrowverse thing, since I never managed to get into Supergirl and also
The mediocrity coming from Hollywood in television and film at the moment is staggering.

Now I'm waiting for the second season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (December 5). Finally!!!
I've only heard of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel yesterday. I think I need to give it a try!
One of the reasons I loved it was the setting in 1958. And, of course, Tony Shaloub. They're all wonderful, really.
I only watched a couple of episodes but was pleasantly surprised that I liked it.
The original Upstairs Downstairs. I love those old BBC costume dramas. After this one, I'll be watching Lillie (Lillie Langtry).
I'm still waiting for Season 2 of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.
Tony Shaloub is outstanding.

I haven't seen the show in question, but he's always great. Wings, Monk, Galaxy Quest... I've never not enjoyed his performances.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 2 started Dec. 5 on Amazon Prime. I'm trying to only watch one episode at a time. It's a great cast, but Tony Shaloub is outstanding.

Now I have Sky TV again, I've been enjoying Psychob*tches (a comedy where a therapist (Rebecca Front) talks to famous women throughout history, as played by Michelle Gomez, Sharon Horgan, Katy Brand, Doon Mackichan, and more).
Finished The Orville. I have to say, it's the best Star Trek since Kirk.
Just finished watching Daredevil Season 3.
Just finished watching Daredevil Season 3.
I just kind of lost interest in the whole Marvel/Netflix cinematic universe. I blame Stupid-Fist. It all got too convoluted for me. I did watch the first two seasons of Daredevil though. Thanks for the thumbs up, I'll have to go back and watch season 3. (I did really like The Punisher though.)
I really want to watch "Line of Duty". We don't have access to any streaming services, and the DVD rental places are closing down one by one so I was pretty excited to find it at the last DVD rental place in our area.
But we couldn't watch it past the cold open. My husband has been having a stressful time at work, and we've just heard that a friend committed suicide last week. The violence in the opening scene was just too much for my husband after hearing the bad news.
Does anyone know how typical that is of the rest of the series? I don't think we should watch it now, if it carries on like that.
I have just watched "Bodyguard" (UK TV series 2018) and I was underwhelmed.
When it was showing on TV I saw lots of comments about it and how good it was, but waited for the box set because I hate waiting a whole week for new episodes and prefer to binge-watch.
Perhaps my expectations were raised too high by all the praise.
It wasn't bad, but there were definitely moments where my disbelief was not suspended and I just thought "Nah! that wouldn't happen."
I've lent it to a friend, but will re-watch it when I get it back. Sometimes I appreciate things more a second time round.
I've moved on to "Poldark" and am loving it!
I'm binging on Blue Heelers on Amazon Prime. For some strange reason I've always had a weakness for Australian TV shows.
Which Poldark? The new one or the original? I haven't watched the new one because I absolutely loved the original. It's been a lot of years so my memory may be blurred enough to avoid comparisons.

The new one.
I didn't watch it first time round as I had recently re-watched the original one, which I too absolutely love.
But my son and daughter kept telling me how good the new version was, so it was only a matter of time before I tried it.
Now into the second series I am fully taken by the new characters - Ross is Ross and Demelza is Demelza.
Frances is good, but he lacks the charm which was always his redeeming feature.
It may take an episode or two to adjust to the new version, but one you have it is a complete joy.

My son bought me the box set of Line of Duty for my birthday last year.
He said - "You won't like this at all, but it's brilliant so you should watch it!"
He knows that my preference is for entertaining telly or action movies (think Buffy and Die Hard).
I didn't "like" Line of Duty, but I was riveted. I watched the whole of the first series on my birthday evening until silly o'clock in the morning, because I had to know what happened.
There is no light to the dark and some very unpleasant moments.
What is interesting, though, is that there is no black and white. No one is "good" and no one "bad". The people who do really bad things are usually led down a path of bad choices where they find themselves trapped into doing things they never thought they would.
Somehow you are carried with them and see how they got themselves into the position where no good choices remain.
After I had watched the whole lot (three series) I swore I would never re-watch it. But I did watch series one again and found myself sympathising with the character I had hated with a passion first time round.
That tells you something about how cleverly the boundaries are blurred.
Brilliant. But hard watching.
What a mess.
What a mess.
Rut-roh.
I'm two episodes in...and, as you noted, so far so good...but, um...

Unexpectedly wonderful. The first season is a little slow as it's devoted to world-building. Things quickly kick into fifth gear in season two.
Ensemble cast, consistently great writing, wonderful pacing, and terrific characters arcs. Plus, the seasons are short; there are no filler episodes.
Black Sails is currently on Hulu.
I'd love to hear what you think after you've completed the season.
It's slow going because I started re-watching this...

So good!
Ah, Fringe. I loved that series!

Olivia: We have a problem. How do we solve it?
Walter: Let's make some LSD.
Peter: :n2Str17:
Walter: :icon_mrgreen:
Had I met Walter in college, I like to think we'd have become fast friends.
But what about Walternate?
But what about Walternate?
Tough call.
On the one hand, he's a genius who's in complete control of his faculties, and such people are cool to talk to.
On the other hand, Walternate is cold-blooded as hell. I'd like to think I could convince him to use his powers for good instead of evil, but you never know.
Okay...

Season 2 watched.
You should start a new thread to discuss just how bad this is - a Writers Workshop of what not to do. I was kind of hate-watching it by the end.
Not a fiction series, but I was gifted a box set of "Derren Brown: The Specials".
I'd heard of Derren Brown vaguely as something of an entertainer/magician/illusionist - I wasn't quite sure what, and it didn't sound very much like my kind of thing.
But I was recommended to watch "The Heist" first - and it was fascinating.
In short, the aim was to take a group of professional people, none of whom had a criminal record, and set them up by a series of suggestions and triggers to "spontaneously" steal a hundred thousand pounds from a security guard when a rigged scenario (which they thought was real) was presented to them.
Setting aside the morality of manipulating people like this, it was interesting to see how people could be effectively programmed to do things they would not normally do (brainwashing?)
Some were less easily influenced than others and in all the programmes in the set picking out the susceptible person was a large part of the process.
The other episodes were Russian Roulette, Seance and The System.
Not my usual choice of viewing, but well worth a look.
Just finished watching -
I bailed after the second episode.
I'm now watching The Umbrella Academy. It's good thus far. Decent characterization.
Finished this last night:

Clever writing and a great cast. Cleese's riffs are hilarious.
Rating: 8/10
Fawlty Towers is currently on Netflix. Two seasons, each consisting of six 30-minute episodes.
We watched the first three episodes of The Detectorists and absolutely loved it.
The trailer doesn't really bring across just how funny it is, but it's hilarious.
Game of Thrones. No idea how this flew under my radar. :shrug

I'm going to start GoT soon. The final season is scheduled to drop on HBO next month, which means I can watch the entire run without going through withdrawals between seasons.
I discovered that Whose Line is it Anyway (UK) is on Hulu. Love that show. I watched three episodes and laughed the whole time.

I love UK Whose Line!
I think they did, or are doing, a stage version with the originals, plus a few guests, in London.
Loved McShane and Slattery.

Mike McShane was great and Tony Slattery was one of my faves. Did you see him in Kingdom with Stephen Fry? Carolyn Quentin was on an episode of Doc Martin.
Brad and Colin did a show but I didn't get to see them when they came to my neck of the woods.

Yes, I did. Was a bit of a Slattery fan girl back in the day. Still am, to an extent. I follow him on Twitter. Seems to be in a good place, these days.
I quite like Colin Mochrie. Wasn't a fan of the tall guy (can't remember his name). And the less said about the US version, the better - just wasn't as good as the UK version.
Amazon gets it right...This was first a 2011 movie; I'll have to see how it compares.

I actually based one of my romance heroes on Shaun Evans. My husband's okay with my crush. I think.
I'm currently making my way through Wire In The Blood, dark crime drama based on the books by Val McDermid.Sounds intriguing from googling. Where are you watching this? on Hulu?
And now series 5 is almost upon us, I thought it was time to give Peaky Blinders a go. Planning to watch the very first episode tonight.
Finished Rectify.
...
Absolutely terrific. One of the best series I've watched in a long time.
It takes its time building the story. But it pulls you in. Before you know it, you're completely invested in the characters. There are so many delights in watching this series.
I got my wife hooked on it, and it became one of her favorite shows. She told some friends about it, and now they're hooked. I once read a critic's review of The Americans when that series was still on the air. He noted that it was one of the best TV shows that no one is watching.
That's how I'd describe Rectify.
It's currently on Netflix. Four seasons, thirty episodes.

I've watched Good Omens on Amazon Prime - it's great (in my humble opinion). Just trying to decide if it's time to start at the beginning again.
Also been watching anything to do with volcanic eruptions... research, you know.

I started at the beginning again just last night. :)
The next episode is going to be my reward for finishing my writing today.
I just started watching Carnival Row. It's steampunk with fairies, not quite what I expected.
Watched Tiny House World. There were only a few seasons, so I finished that.
Then I tried watching Travels by Narrowboat, but it was very boring just to watch someone traveling through a tunnel in a boat and I found the narrator/host/boat owner to be unsympathetic. I've been curious about narrowboats since I read the Hillary Greene mystery series. Hillary lives on a narrowboat and it's just like the name implies. Very long and very narrow and built to travel the canals of England.
I'm also watching reruns of the Carol Burnett show but I laugh so much that it annoys my dog. He really gets very upset.

We had rather a memorable holiday on a narrowboat ages ago - we managed to experience all kinds of weather in a week, including a gale that blew us right across to the far side of the canal as we came out of a lock, and got us stuck in the mud there. I got soaked and stung all over by nettles trying to push the boat away from the bank. There was also a tunnel that was so terrifying that I let my older son steer us through it while I sat in the cabin attempting to get so immersed in the first Harry Potter book that I forgot about all the tons of rock and earth above our heads ... Good times!

The West Wing and it's terrific! It's streaming on Netflix. Some of the best writing & dialogue I've ever seen in a TV show. 🎉👏
Though I'm going to stop at the end of season 4 because that's when Sorkin stops writing it & from what I've read it goes to pot after that. Apparently, it goes from a character-driven show with a compelling moral dimension to a plot-driven show that drags the characters along which would definitely tank it's appeal. Fortunately, I've got a long way to go still.

I usually watch The West Wing once a year. Fabulous show.
Bummer is that they were planning to have Shran as a regular in the fifth season.
Jeffrey Combs makes everything better.
Unless you're his son, in which case he'll turn you into a mutant Hammerhead shark.

That thought reminded me of Brad Dourif who has played a number of crazed killers in different scifi shows (The X-Files, Babylon 5, Star Trek: Voyager, etc.) mainly because he has a daughter, Fiona Dourif, who played a crazed assassin in Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency.
I'm one of the ones who loved Voyager. Never could get into DS9. I was so disappointed when Enterprise was cancelled. I even wrote a letter begging them to bring it back.
Jeffrey Combs makes everything better.
And I knew I recognized Brian Thompson. (I checked Wiki to be sure.)
I keep reading "The Expanse" is binge-worthy. Really? I'm up to episode three and am not getting the appeal. The characters have the depth of cardboard cut-outs. Or am I missing something?
Roswell New Mexico
It's turning out to be really fun. :)
The Stranger, a 12-part serial from 1964 which was recently discovered in the Australian national archives, cleaned up and posted to Youtube.
It's very Doctor Who.
We've had a new Van der Valk adaptation and repeats of a short Maigret series starring Rowan Atkinson here in the past few weeks - both excellent.
Just started watching a new series based on the film Snowpiercer.
Too soon to say, but here's hoping.
The Blacklist. I'm just jonesing for an excuse to inject a Raymond Reddington type of character into one of my stories.
The Boys are back on Amazon. Not for everyone, but season 2 appears to be a strong continuation of the "what if the Justice League were horrible people" themes.
It's a great show.👍 Twisted as fork but entertaining. They're all supervillains sold to the public as superheroes -- except Starlight, the lone super who still holds to the idealism of a proper superhero. Kinda suspect it's a fair parallel to celebrity culture generally.
But Hughie... had some good moments late in season 1 but in season 2... 🤬 How is it possible a guy can be such an annoying, whiny, self-absorbed douche that he makes the psychopathic megalomaniac Homelander seem likable by comparison? A super needs to zap, splat, or otherwise end Hughie! Either that or maybe give him some supe level T-replacement therapy. He's a soytifa waiting to happen.
I've been watching DS9 for the first time. Nearly done now, but I got a bit tired of it and wanted something lighter and more modern. Landed on Republic of Doyle which is silly and a bit crazy but quite watchable.Love Republic of Doyle ... was born in St. Johns
Binging Schitts Creek. Laugh out loud funny in many places, which is all I can ask for.

Season 1...
Interesting, mostly due to worldbuilding. If you enjoy the cyberpunk genre, you'll like this from a bird's-eye view.
Acting: A couple actors do solid work. Most do forgettable work. A few do consistently cringe-worthy work.
Writing: Uneven. Some good episodes and some bad episodes.
Directing: Solid. A few great sequences surrounded by really good ones. Poor choices here and there, but that's to be expected when you're relying on a stable of directors (unlike, for example, season 1 of True Detective).
Visuals: great. Big budget put to good use.
Overall: 7
Season 2...
A dumpster fire.
Acting: with the exception of one character, sh*tty.
Writing: terrible. Bad enough to make you curse the writers.
Directing: also terrible. Storytelling sacrificed for cool-looking scenes (which aren't nearly as cool-looking as the directors probably imagined).
Visuals: ho-hum. Lower budget than season 1. But rather than leaning into the storytelling, they tried to dazzle and totally missed the landing.
Overall: 2 (only saving grace was one particular character's arc).

I've just started watching Season 1, having decided I need Netflix in my life (I really don't, but I'll tell myself that). I'm finding it interesting to compare it to the book - read a long, long time ago. A lot of the elements are there and some of the side-stories / side-characters are really well done (I love the hotel AI). Sounds like I might need a distraction to get me through season 2, though!

Season 1...
Watching Midsomer Murders from the beginning. In each ep, someone is killed and then, while the cops dither about sort of investigating, about half a dozen more people are slaughtered in various crazy ways. (It's set in a number of English country villages.) Last night's ep was an elderly woman who wouldn't stay off the roof and someone who was pronounced dead by hotel ashtray.
Best part of the show is waiting for each 'corpse' to blink, swallow, breathe, twitch etc.
"Lord Fancypants has been dead at least two days" intones the detective gravely.
Wait for it... wait for it... There, he moved!
Usually the reason for all the crimes seems to be hand-waved away as 'because insanity' and on we go to the next ep.
It's not meant to be funny, it just is.
Utopia on Amazon Prime. It's a remake, a very poignant remake, of an older British show of the same name.I saw this on Amazon Prime and thought it was just the original UK show, which I watched about ten years back and thought was excellent.
The show creator, and the writer for all 8 episodes of season 1, is Gillian Flynn (the author of Gone Girl).
John Cusack plays Bill Gates. He's not named Bill Gates; but, yeah, it's Bill Gates.
Starts off with some nerdy comic and convention stuff (non-nerds don't be deterred, it's brief), then jumps headfirst down the rabbit hole into nefarious plots and layered deceptions (vaccines, viruses, media manipulation, hitmen, sleeper agents, and more).
Definitely worth watching 👍
Watching The X-Files. Harder to watch now because I find myself recognizing actors from different shows, mainly Stargate: SG-1. I think they were both filmed in Vancouver. Kind of ruins the suspension of disbelief a bit. The episode I'm watching right now . . . Twenty minutes in and have already spotted three people from Stargate: SG-1. Also possibly someone from Star Trek: The Next Generation.
Lots of recognizable people had guest appearances on that show.
In GB, it seems that everyone takes a turn on Midsomer Murders, New Tricks, The Doctors, Coronation Street, Doc Martin, etc. I think that's because they're not locked in to 26 episodes per season like in the US.
I got through a few seasons of the X-Files recently, but neither Scully nor Mulder ever learned anything from their adventures. They both continued to act like it was the first show and the writers were still establishing the characters. It was okay for a bit, but Jesus - Scully can no longer be skeptical about anything once she's seen aliens and supernatural sh*t for a couple of years. Mulder can't do a 180 about the truth being out there when the truth has literally ruined multiple FBI suits at this point. It's just stupid. I think it was easier to ignore on a weekly show, but watching them back to back really spotlights the flaws.

A British cold case police series with the incomparable Nicola Walker, courtesy of BritBox.
ARCANE
Steampunk animation with great writing and characters.
Peaky Blinders on Netflix.
Post WWI gangsters in England starring Cillian Murphy probably best known from 28 Days Later and Batman Begins (as Scarecrow).
Just completed Season 1.
The production value, cinematography, cast, and acting are exceptional. The story early on had me wondering but the last couple episodes of S1 have given me some confidence the writers know where they're going even if they're being coy with it.
Re-watching New Tricks. I lost track of the series after the first six or eight seasons (PBS and our own public TV channel, TVO aren't the most reliable when it comes to series) but with BritBox, I can binge on the entire thing. For some reason, New Tricks' upbeat style of crime solving always cheers me up.

I liked Stranger Things Season 4, especially the last two episodes. But my expectations have plummeted over the last few years, so I might not be the best judge.
We have something similar to Shakespeare and Hathaway, called McDonald and Dodds, which I like - nice background shots of Bath too - and recently a short series called 'Murder in Provence' also with good scenery. A bit more scary, 'The Undeclared War' which is a near future computer hacking thriller. As a former programmer I admired the fact that they found a way to make searching through miles of code look exciting!
McDonald and Dodds is only a little more serious than S and H - it's a police procedural in a way but the characters are very quirky and often amusing.
I like the whole setup in Murder in Provence - interesting to see how things work with the judge doing a lot of th questioning. I hadn't ever watched Endeavour but maybe should give it a try.
Andor. It's fantastic. They've had an all-star team of writers working on it, and it shows. An absolute masterclass in storytelling.
I would like to see it because Rogue One was my favorite of the new SW releases. But I'm not going to subscribe to D+ just for one series.

I watched Sister Boniface which is a spinoff from Father Brown. Only one season and I hope they do more.I watched quite a few seasons of Father Brown on DVD. I don't know whether or not they do justice to the original Chesterton, but I found them to be very well done.
Now I'm watching Father Brown. My daughter got me the complete Father Brown mysteries by GK Chesterton in paperback along with a Father Brown umbrella.
Both are mystery series on BritBox.

One of the first ebooks I bought back in 2009 was the complete Father Brown mysteries. I soon gave up on it. It was converted via the Gutenberg Project and had no paragraphs and no space or other distinguishing marks between books.

So, was this something someone converted from PG and then sold on Amazon? Because Project Gutenberg books are usually fairly well-done because they seem pretty particular about matching the original book.
Way back when, PG only did text files but now they do HTML, ePub and Kindle files.

I believe it was Mark Williams. Yup, just looked it up, and it was him.
Which Father Brown did you watch? Mark Williams or Kenneth More?

The Kenneth More Father Brown adheres to the books; the Mark Williams makes it farce. Seems that many Brit viewers are furious w/the Williams version for going astray. But I say the book Father Brown is dull and unpleasant and More's no improvement. Williams is a hoot.
Again, not having read the books, it's hard for me to judge. I wouldn't have called the Williams interpretation a farce, though. There is some light humor, but the way real-world problems are handled is much more serious than a farce would be.Which Father Brown did you watch? Slavery was made illegal in England by the Normans. That's interesting to know. It's too bad it didn't stick.
I just finished the OA on Netflix. It's a little hard to describe because a lot of it is told from the viewpoint of someone who may or may not be sane. Consequently, it's either a somewhat dark fantasy or a psychological drama. I can't say much more about it without spoilers.Yesterday, I discovered I'd only seen Part I. Part II is less ambiguous in its genre but still very interesting.
Surprisingly good for propaganda. Keri Russell never disappoints and Rufus Sewell is his creepy self.
Finished Babylon 5, hated that last episode. Made no sense, the one before was more like the final one.
The way season 4 ended, it was clear it was meant to wrap it all up and make it a nice ending. Or, as best they could with the story line. I didn't even mind most of season 5, but the last episode was odd. I never did see what really happened to Lennier, or any mention of the psychic one (Talia? I can't remember now). And I guess all the foreshadowing of how it ended for Londo and his people, and G'Kar was how it actually went down.
I'm finishing up -- finally! -- Gene Roddenberry's Earth: Final Conflict. I vaguely remember watching it when it was originally on, but I've forgotten most of it. I am getting old, man. I have found I like binge watching stuff, which before I never could.
I'm currently watch SeaQuest. I have a vague memory it gets weird a couple of seasons in, but so far it seems okay.

I tried several times to get into this and just couldn't. I've heard from quite a few folks that it's very good. Perhaps it's just me. :shrug
Both of you are off my Christmas list.
I'm getting tired of a series ending on a cliffhanger which is never resolved.
Sometimes it's nice to have the bad guys be bad. The good guys be good. A plot that's all about evil's comeuppance. And an entertaining cast of wholesome ass-kicking heroes.
...sold his soul to the devil for eternal life (though perhaps there is more to that than meets the eye).
... and Dark Winds...which is an amazing show, IMHO. Believe they're getting a 3rd season!...
Babylon 5...loved the first three and a half seasons. After that, some episodes were better than others.

I completely agree. From best to worst, I rank the seasons 3, 2, 1/4, 4/1, 5.

I wonder how much better the 5th season could have been if (a) they knew earlier that there would be a fifth season and (b) they would have been able to keep Claudia Christian.
Tracy Scoggins did a good job as Captain Lochley, but it would have been better to see Ivanova in that position.
One of the things I liked about the final season of Stargate: Atlantis was having Robert Picardo's Woosley in charge. That just made for an interesting character dynamic because he goes from a position of second guessing everyone's command decisions after the fact and informing them what they should have done and into the position of actual command and learning that you can't always go by the book.
I wish they'd added him earlier (love Carter, but she just didn't work right on Atlantis) and I wish we'd had another season or two of him in that role.
