How to market a "weird Western"?
« on: December 28, 2022, 08:11:13 AM »
I write historical Westerns and tried my hand at a weird Western.  Lots of fun.  But finding the right Zon categories or AMS keywords is a puzzle.  Would appreciate advice from those writing weird Westerns:  do cats/keywords like "Western science fiction," "supernatural Western adventure" and "Western fantasy" draw readers or have I missed something better in my review of weird Westerns listed on the Zon?

See what Cowboys & Aliens is categorized in.  It's a movie but it may help.  Was it a book or graphic novel too?  That might help more.

Also, the TV show Legend.  There was also The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr. but I don't remember if that had any scifi or fantasy elements.

I write historical and contemporary western romances. Do you use PublisherRocket? If not I highly recommend it. It's great for picking keywords for store placement and AMS. I admit, I haven't used AMS in a few years but I would look up books similar to yours and see what keywords they show up in. I have seen "western science fiction" used by some authors when categorizing their work but not sure how it works as an AMS keyword.

Maybe these books can give you an idea of what to target on AMS: https://www.amazon.com/Best-Sellers-Western-Science-Fiction/zgbs/digital-text/7588796011
