Funny or slangy synonyms for God?
« on: March 13, 2020, 01:18:54 PM »

My atheist hero refers to God variously as:

the Choreographer Upstairs
the Prime Mover
Sky Daddy
the flying spaghetti monster
everyone’s imaginary friend

someone in TOP suggested CEO of the universe and I love that and will use it.

In what other amusing or snarky ways could he refer to God? Thanks.

Not sure about funny/snarky...

But I use Divine instead of the G word. Others use Cosmos.

But in some sense, 'higher' also applies, although I use that more for deities, angels, and other higher beings. But the Big-G is technically a higher as well.

I've heard "the big guy." Maybe initial caps.

Or 'the guy upstairs'.

There is also "She who must be obeyed".

I have some friends who refer to God as the Sky Fairy or Magical Sky Daddy (rather than just Sky Daddy). I have also seen Galactic Curtain Twitcher.

I've only ever seen that when referring to one's wife.  If a literary character referred to God in that way, I'd assume it was an editing error.

Depends on if someone has already mentioned they think god is a woman.

I often think of God as The Big Hand. Just when I think I know where I'm going, and how I'm going to get there, the Big Hand reaches down through the clouds and sets me on a different road altogether.

"Oh, the shame of it...my father, beaten by a giant mouse."

"She who must be obeyed" is a reference to Rumpole's wife in the Rumpole of the Bailey series.

"She who must be obeyed" is a reference to Rumpole's wife in the Rumpole of the Bailey series.

And that of course was a reference to the immortal Ayesha (she-who-must-be-obeyed) in the novel She by H. Rider Haggard (as played by Ursula Andress in the movie!)

Another good one is "the nailed god" (from the Last Kingdom series by Bernard Cornwell).
