AMS and the sponsored product carousel
« on: January 16, 2019, 05:04:46 AM »
The more I learn, the more confused I get, it seems.

Is the sponsored product carousel available to bid on to anyone?  Not through AMS but somewhere else?
I imagine it's really expensive, but I'm just trying to understand all this as best I can.

I am familiar with bidding on the little rectangle ad that shows up above the also boughts and sponsored carousel through AMS, or what ever they are calling it now.  Just curious about that sponsored products row.

Thanks for your help in advance.  Amanda

What carousel exactly? You mention the sponsored carousel and sponsored row as two different things? I consider them both carousels so not sure exactly what you are asking.

I don't personally know of any method of advertising within Amazon, from outside. Although the other way around used to be possible but they discontinued that in the UK, don't know about US.

Hey, thanks for responding.  I am in the US but here's a UK link to show you what I'm talking about:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Reckoning-electrifying-novel-bestseller-Grisham/dp/1473684382/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1547597734&sr=8-1&keywords=the+reckoning+john+grisham

I'm talking about the "Sponsored products related to this item" that you see there, I hope.  I would be happy to go through Amazon to do it, but I don't where/how, so probably the row that you mean, I just got used to calling it a carousel, sorry.

Unless you're seeing something different to me, it's just an ordinary sponsored carousel. You are talking about the one directly underneath the "customers who viewed this ..." I take it?
If so, it's done through AMS, just ordinary sponsored product ads, and until recently, also product display ads which are now replaced by sponsored target ads.
Or am I still missing something?

I'm the one missing something, but I don't know how to explain it, obviously, sorry.
Is this the difference in the custom ad versus the standard ad?

When I create an ad I click sponsored products.   Then I can pick Custom Text or standard text.  This all changed recently, but I have been doing custom text, which I thought was one step closer to the nice ads people create themselves, which I am very uncapable of doing.

I don't know if you can see this link:

https://www.amazon.com/Storyteller-Jodi-Picoult-ebook/dp/B008J48RA4/ref=sr_1_1?s=digital-text&ie=UTF8&qid=1547602797&sr=1-1&keywords=the+storyteller

Under The Storyteller there is a rectangular box ad, for a book called the The Hired Man.

That is the kind of ad I have been doing.  I'm 99% sure because they show me the ad when I create the campaign, and it looks like that, not like what you see in the sponsored products carousel/row.

Maybe it is different in the US and the UK?  Thank you for trying to help me, but please don't waste anymore time on this if you are busy.  I can ask support.  They probably groan when they see my name come up, and draw straws to see whose turn it is to deal with the uberidiot, but they do get back to me, eventually.

Thank you,  Amanda

I am almost certainly not seeing the same ads as you. That's normal. I'm also viewing from the UK so that will change things as well. Whether you are on desktop, tablet or phone will also change things so the only way to really explain is with a screenshot. I'll attempt to attach some here.

The product display ad is in it's own box. They are being phased out from what I can tell.

The sponsored products can be targeted by keyword or by product detail page and will show up in the sponsored carousel. I still haven't quite got my head around how it all works yet with the new options but either way, the ad will show on the search page and / or in the sponsored carousel on related book pages.

That's the short version. I don't mind helping out but I think it's time for bed :) If you have more questions just post here and I'll try to answer, maybe tomorrow, unless somebody else wants to chime in :)

Thank you, that is very helpful.  I guess that explains why I couldn't find the AMS ad thread on this site anymore.  Man I thought I was losing it.  Have a good night, but isn't it almost morning there already?
Thanks again.

Yep. Don't normally go to bed much before 4:00am :)
