The Any Words a Day Club
« on: September 25, 2018, 06:59:53 AM »
I enjoyed a similar thread over in the forum that shall not be named and wanted to start a new one.

This thread is to log any words you might write in a day, generally for those that don't write consistently large numbers or are even able to write every day! But those of you who do are welcomed too. Don't feel intimidated by large numbers!

If you happen to have a day where your written words are actually less than you started with, that's all good too! We all have them.

I can't write every day as I often work 12hr shifts, but I try and get a little done on my breaks if I'm able to.

So to start us off, today I managed to write this post; 132 words!

Glad to see this again because I'm definitely not consistent.

Yesterday's count is 1,059.

Today's count is 0 but the day's not over yet.

Right now my actual new words being written is zero. I'm going through a final edit on my next novel that I hope to hit the Publish button on by the end of this month. Only about 50K words left to edit.  :HB

I'm in the editing stage too, so word count is 0 at the moment. Funny thing is , I often end up adding more words than I take away  :icon_think:

I'm hoping to get editing finished and book up for sale mid-end October.

I was editing my latest novel, getting it ready publishing and realized I needed one more chapter. So, I got 1524 words in and still need another 1000-1500.

I wrote words today! For the first time in months!
Not only did I get 398 words down on the story, I might have written twice that in my notes since I finally figured out how to kill my villain  grint

I'm going to take this small victory and pretend I haven't procrastinated on it for most of 2018  :hehe

Got 1.5k yesterday, finished my new version of Chapter one (bumping my ORIGINAL version of it down to chapter three). 42k words total of which I'm sure at least a thousand are comments in * for things I need to check later for doubling or continuity and whatnot.

I'm starting a new story today. (Finished my last story yesterday, so I want to keep up the momentum.) It's slow going, but once I warm up, I'm sure it'll go faster. Or at least I think I'm sure. Or I think I think I'm sure.

Is anyone else afraid each time they start a new story that they'll have forgotten how to write a book? Or is it just me? :tap

Managed to sneak in 405 words this evening.

Definitely won't be able to do that again until Monday - taking medical emergency calls during nights of a weekend is not conducive to writing during my breaks.  Will probably be trying to catch 10 mins of snoozing during them.

On the contrary, I first check the facticity of the world building before I write!

I stop the moment the current Scene In Progress (SIP) exposes my ignorance on certain aspects that would make the narration more real and enjoyable. I can waive off these things s little bit if it is a fantasy story. But that liberty cannot be taken for other genres excepting perhaps horror.

I really don't allow myself to get uptight about the total WC for the WEP session as long as I hit a minimum of 500. Actually, the WC depends on the scope of the present scene right? I try to show more if think the WC can be increased without overdoing or boring.

Happy writing! :tup3b

None, but I have managed to set up my account here and put a book in my signature - that counts as work, right?

Absolutely.

580 today plus messing around with downloads from my AlphaSmart.

First, nothing at all happened. Then I realized it might be the cable. Switched cables and the file downloaded to Word. Then I sat down to write, but the words weren't appearing on the screen or were very, very delayed. Hmmm. So, what do the IT people tell you to do first? Turn it off and turn it on again. Yup, that worked, but all that took up most of my writing time.

Maybe I can carve out an hour later on.

Yesterday I managed a whole 73 words!

Today I got myself back into the swing and managed 2877.

I'm 1950 above where I planned to be so far this week  Grin  Long may it continue that way while I have two weeks off work (although I have a lot of decorating planned

I'll put it on record that my WIP (working title "Otherwise") is currently at the 11 862 work mark.  This thread will probably serve to remind me how regularly I fail to reach my theoretical target of 1000 words a day! But, of course, it is all about letting the story write itself in its own time. Although finishing a project is good too. I have at least two unfinished novels on file.

Definitely on a roll.

483. I had to stop and do some more research. It's frustrating when the research is contradictory. I feel an author's note coming on.

Ugh, I ended up deleting most of what I wrote today (almost 1100 words gone!)

I still managed a gain of 298 words though. Could have been worse. And I'm in the right place to carry on tomorrow :)

Nothing but research today but I finally got the conflicting info resolved. With all the new info I've found, I'm going to have to do a lot of inserting into what I've already written. That's a good thing. It will move the story along nicely.

Now at 13 712 words. You will see why I didn't sign up to the 2K words a day thread!

It takes me about a year to write a book. I have nothing but admiration for those who take part in NaNoWriMo and can write a novel in a month!

I forgot to check my word count yesterday but it's somewhere up around 1400.

My dog and I have reached an understanding. He can cuddle up to me and rest his head against my alphasmart as long as his ears don't cover any essential keys. Maybe now I can get a few more words in at home.

I've set myself a target of 500 words every day in 2019. And it doesn't matter if those words are spread over more than one story (I have numerous wips).

I'm unofficially starting today and reached 936 words (spread over two different stories).

I'm sitting here trying to convince myself I should get dressed and go to the library to write. But it's cold outside and I'm so comfy and warm in my flannel PJ's.

Maybe I should go to McD's to work instead. Hot tea and a Cinna-Melt. That sounds much better.

1558 this morning. it felt good to get back to the WIP, but I had a rude awakening when I realized according to my timeline, the story is almost over. That won't do at all. I still pretty much have to end it the same place, but there's lots in between that got left out in my eagerness to follow the timeline.

I'll make it work.

Didn't have previous two WEP sessions. Since spot jogging is an embedded/nested schedule of WEP session, that didn't get invoked for the last two sessions as well.

Happy Christmas Everyone!

Just enjoying Christmas Eve and Christmas. Hope to get back to writing tomorrow. The next session or two should see the end of the first draft. Then the serious work begins.

0 words + Online Research + 0 minutes spot jogging from my latest WEP session.

*****

WIPWC 2018 = 49443

*****

TWC 2019 = 0 Vs TWC 2018 = 164,144

*****

ADWC 2019 = 0 Vs ADWC 2018 = 449.70

*****

Percentage Words Published 2019 = PWP 2019 = (Words Published 2019/TWC 2019) * 100 = ?%

Vs

PWP 2018 = (120383/164144) * 100 = 73.33%

Now, 164144 - 120383 = 43,761 unpublished words which belongs to WIP. The WIP, however, currently stands at 49,443 words. This increase is because of thousands of words gained through zero pass editing as recorded via EIP thread.

You've really been busy! Congrats!  :goodpost:

This is the first book I've written in a year and there was an even longer period before that one. Now, hopefully, I'm back in the game.

2594 today. I was afraid after my last session that the story was going to end abruptly without resolving anything or really having much purpose at all. I knew I had to rewrite major portions and beef up the romance (not filler), but it wasn't enough. Then today, after I'd rewritten my first paragraph four times, I remembered the major storyline I'd let languish. Saved the day!

5,072 words for today and 35,378 for the week, which is satisfying and worrying since I'm still on a mandatory no-writing break after my latest release. But when you gotta write, you gotta write.

On the to-do list for tomorrow:
1) Research for next chapter and then write it
2) Look up the word "mandatory"

I overslept this morning, and late as it was, I figured I would have to skip my Sunday writing session. After walking the dog, I plopped back in bed but that only lasted a few minutes. The habit of Sunday writing at Panera is too strong, so I pushed myself off the bed and got ready to leave.

Then I realized my slacks were actually falling off me. I lost 15 pounds last year and really can't wear a lot of my old clothes. This could be another excuse not to go, but I persisted, changed my slacks and hauled my sorry a** out the door.

The result? 2,589 words and a big leap forward to the thrilling (I hope) end. I'm up to about 62K words but I have a lot of serious editing ahead of me.

Agreed. I'm pretty much down to my ideal weight now given a pound or two daily variance. Now, it's time to exercise and tone up the slack. Hopefully.

Two really good scenes today for a total of 2,217 words.  Did a tiny bit of editing. I like to read over the previous day's work both to edit and refresh my memory. Also helps me get back into the flow of the story.

Expecting 1.6" of rain today and I think we got it all this morning. I ended up going to Panera for lunch and I don't think I'll be doing that again. My salad was a big bowl of baby spinach, half a hard boiled egg and a sprinkling of bacon and cheese crumbs. Hardly worth the effort. And I think they only whispered poppyseed dressing over it.

Broccoli cheese soup and bread were good but so uninspiring. I only did 1,339 words today and as I walked back into my house, I thought of something I needed to add in to keep the action going.

I've set myself a target of 500 words every day in 2019. And it doesn't matter if those words are spread over more than one story (I have numerous wips).

I'm unofficially starting today and reached 936 words (spread over two different stories).

Nice start!

Ha, actually after that I didn't actually do the 500 words each day.

On the plus side, I wrote over 1.5k words, during a quiet spell at work, so that at least covers three days.

Words are words.  It doesn't matter when you write them.

I find if I say I'm going to do this or that every day, and then I miss a day or two, I get discouraged and give up. My only goal right now is to add on one or two more days a week of writing and I'm not even being specific about what day of the week. My only set in stone day to write is Sunday because I go to Panera for breakfast (spinach/artichoke souffle). That's my incentive.

So far, I haven't added the extra day, but I usually end up writing 2K every Sunday. The exception was this past Sunday when it was raining so badly, I couldn't get out of the house until lunchtime. Lunch was pretty bad and I ended up with 1339 words. Still it's words, but you can bet I won't be going there for lunch again. Souffles are my inspiration.  Now I just need to find a weekday inspiration.

Yesterday went very well with 2,739 words. I'll have the opportunity to work again this afternoon. Nearly time to wrap up and then make sense of what I wrote before.  Total words is 68,399.

411 words from my latest WEP session.

"A scene, well formed in the mind, is worth thousands of words."

My SIP seems to be meaty, I presume. So, hopefully, a bunch of my subsequent WEP sessions qualify for 1k and 2k threads.

Hello Everyone  :mhk9U91:

That is my favourite thread, I really wish I could write more and still hope in the future I will, but right now I am happy if I write anything. Yesterday was 252, and so proud of it. Today around 100 so far and still writing :banana-riding-llama-smiley-em.

Recovering from wisdom teeth extraction and not as productive as I'd like to be, but 928 new words and some editing.

Hoping to make a new go of it tomorrow.
