I have been having some really low word counts the last few days. Today's goal is 108 pages edited and 2-3k new words.

So far at 81 pages edited will update if i finish it.

Lorri - no I've never seen it. We are working on Schitt's Creek right now, maybe I'll get into that next, thanks.

I've been reading WWII novels back to back for the past few months. Both wars have been a lifelong interest for me, particularly the story behind daring raids like the Dambusters. As for Battle of Britain (1969) it has its flaws, but I'll rewatch it any time. Was so disappointed the new Peter Jackson movie was shelved so they could butcher the Hobbit instead.

The first short story was I ever wrote was about the RAF, when I was about 6 - in 1972 ;-)

When I was in primary school the teacher started to read us a story about the aftermath of a bombing raid. He got to the halfway point before it was time to go home, and some kids complained to their parents so the next day he explained the second half of the story would be put aside 'for now' and we got a fluffy bunny story instead. I was too timid as a kid to just ask if I could borrow the book, so I've never found out what happened next. I've had an aversion to sequels ever since ;-)

Well sometimes the kids do get disturbed by stuff. My 11 year old is doing a report on Kronos for Latin. She asked me yesterday to find a picture of him because she couldn't find one that didn't have him eating his children (which freaked her out) or one with his penis exposed. :)

As kids, our eldest would get disturbed about stuff, whereas with our youngest it was like water off a duck's back.

I made a trailer for my short story.  So much more fun than just posting the standard blurb.  Is anyone else making book trailers right now?

1143. It's been a long while since I put in a full week (5 days in a row). Of course next week Monday is a holiday but I am starting to get that "Wow, I really will finish this feeling." Course I have to go back in and add some more historical references in the beginning and middle (a character who reads and reacts to the newspapers every day makes this way easier.) And then read aloud. But yeah, almost finished...

It's 7pm and I've yet to start writing for the day. This, after writing 34k in the past week.

On the other hand I didn't get up until 1.30pm (early for me, lol) and my youngest daughter and I spent the afternoon in the garden tackling weeds.

I've just spent an hour putting together a landing page & setting up a newsletter ahead of time for a friend's novel which will be a freebie next week, and now, finally, I'm getting ready to write.

Except I'm here, posting.

Yesterday I got stuck trying to figure out if penicillin would be administered orally or intramuscularly and by the doctor or the nurse. It's set in 1947 and after fruitless researching I decided to distract the character from seeing it by showing him the x-ray.

4100 today so far.

I've knocked off 61k since the 1st October, so that's roughly 30k / week on average.

It's on 82500 with maybe 10-15k to go. I was aiming for 100k, but it's done when it's done.

7278 today, making 90k total more or less. (Also wrote 3k of plot outline for the last 10 chapters. Shame that doesn't count!)

Can see the end just around the corner, and I'm really happy about the way it's all come together. I reckon it's much better than the first book, but we'll see!

Yesterday I entered the cold edits for 50pgs and listen read to 50 pgs.

If i can get the same 50pgs today and tomorrow, i'll have one more book ready for my editor.

Yesterday I thought I was 2-3 chapters from finishing, but today I had to add two MORE chapters to the project. (Sometimes the actual writing requires more verbiage than the outline suggested.)

2600 so far today, but it's only 4am...

454 but it was an emotional 454.

I also got the file for book 1 with the book 2 preview up and it just went live. So I am excited to see what happens next, if people like book 1 and the characters and the preview enough to commit to book 2 right now. Not expecting a whole lot, but any preorder will feel very good.

Almost 7000 today, lovely scene or two to round out the novel. ALL DONE! 103k all up, over 80k of them this month.

My next project is a ~55k light SF novel. Completely different in every way.

I decided to put my preorder up, even though it's not something I usually do.

I've finished the novel and my alpha readers are going through it with a fine-tooth comb, so it's not exactly risky.

3500 today on my latest WIP (Harriet 4).  8800 so far, and the books in this series are only 55-60k.

I set the pre-release for my previous novel to the 30th November, but at this rate I'll have Foxtrot Hotel up for preorder before Enigma in Silver is released.

ETA the preorder date for Enigma will almost certainly come forwards. The book is finished and some proofers/beta readers have already got to the end.

Honestly, some days I spend all day not-writing.  I don't mean periods when I don't have time to write, I mean when the word processor is open, the plot is outlined, the special mood music is playing and then I get up to check the mailbox, make another cup of tea, fiddle with cover art or whatever.

Eventually I've been awake 14 hours and have achieved nothing, and I type like crazy for about 2 hours to get my words done.

I'm at 1300 for the day and I need another 1000.

I'm a bit muddled on timeframes though. If I got up at 4 in the afternoon and had dinner about an hour ago (2am), when should I write to? (Bearing in mind I usually go to bed around 6.30-7am.)

Ahh the life of a single author, lol.
