"The first lesson of economics is scarcity: there is never enough of anything to fully satisfy all those who want it. The first lesson of politics is to disregard the first lesson of economics.” – Thomas Sowell

"The State is an institution run by gangs of murderers, plunderers and thieves, surrounded by willing executioners, propagandists, sycophants, crooks, liars, clowns, charlatans, dupes and useful idiots—an institution that dirties and taints everything it touches.” - Hans Hoppe

Merry Christmas!
See you all next week for New Year's  grint

Had a very nice day with the family, but now my power is out... well, I still have a gas fireplace and my car so I'm not in danger of freezing. I think this is a first for Christmas, though.

Merry Christmas!

We took our annual post-dinner walk in a neighborhood that does extensive outdoor decorating on rather small lots--and has sidewalks. Many Santas, Olafs, reindeer, and penguins. We skipped the street that has dragons. Lots of candy canes. A large number of draped single strings of lights from a single source to create a tree effect. Many nets of lights over bushes. Very few projections this year, and very few of the multiple icicles in boring white from the eaves. (I think that trend continues in ritzier neighborhoods. It was beautiful when it started, but quickly got overdone.) A full moon (or close to it), misty sky, balmy (circa 45-50 degrees) temperature, and dry sidewalks completed our pleasant stroll that turned into a one-mile hike.
