Corona virus Spread Factors
« on: March 25, 2020, 11:39:01 PM »
How about we make a list of spread factors for areas around the world.

Why are some places more prone to fast spread than others?

Western world general - eftpos buttons, ATM buttons.

New York - All highrise - elevator buttons.

Italy - Standard greeting is kissing cheeks.

Iran - Licking shrines.

What do you think?

Stupidity.

Some examples:

A kid who licked toilets as part of the #CoronaVirusChallenge says he's now in the hospital with coronavirus.

I had to Google "eftpos"--yes, ATMs machines must be crawling with all kinds of germs. Gloves should make a return in any case.

Any communal space object should be treated with caution--handrails, door handles, faucets, water coolers, counters-tops, the scoop for bulk items at the grocery store, cart handles...

That cup of coffee handed to you by a sniffling barista, the package from the post office, prepared foods at the deli, all could be contaminated. I'm not sure about unpackaged produce or meat wrapped in plastic.

The thing you wave your credit/debit card at, but it tells you it wants a pin anyway.

Saw a doctor's rooms not long ago where they had the hand sanitizer out, but no-one was sanitizing the eftpos machine everyone was touching. But the next doctor I went to, the receptionist was doing it every ten people, which was better.

Instead of stupidity, I would say extreme stupidity.

A Man Who Allegedly Coughed At A Woman And Said He Has The Coronavirus Was Charged With Making Terrorist Threats https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/clarissajanlim/new-jersey-man-coronavirus-terrorist-threat

Missouri man charged with licking items at Walmart to mock coronavirus fears https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/missouri-man-arrested-licking-items-walmart-mock-coronavirus-fears-n1168901

However, I will admit that the toilet licker wins the stupidity sweepstakes.

A minor one, in my neighborhood everyone uses the communal trashcans for pet waste. You can't open it without touching the handle. Since buying hand sanitizer is out of the question and I'm out, I've taken to carrying the dog poop home. (Yes, I still walk my dog, but it is fairly amusing when meeting someone on the sidewalk and we walk in this wide circle around each other)

That's smart. Everyone here carries there poop home, except those who leave it, who are very bad people (no creative juices yet, sorry).

I think it was Seinfeld who said if aliens were watching us they would think dogs were the master race as we walk behind them, pick up their poop and carry it for them.  Side note - EVERYONE is getting a puppy here. EVERYONE. It's nuts. I looked at the shelter north of here and they have two chinchillas, and I was tempted, always wanted one. Then my kid said their friend got one and showed me a video of the thing doing it's dirt bath. Far less tempted now.

Since this is the spread thread here is the mask link, if that's okay. I was able to order 44 yards of elastic from Walmart (conahura, knock wood).  My neighbor is giving them to her co-workers.

When idiots put themselves at risk, I'm fine with them removing themselves from the gene pool. But when people intentionally put others at risk, I don't want them charged and arrested. That just requires more funds from the public. I want their asses beat (examples here and here).

In my opinion, it's the best way to deal with these assholes.

"The State is an institution run by gangs of murderers, plunderers and thieves, surrounded by willing executioners, propagandists, sycophants, crooks, liars, clowns, charlatans, dupes and useful idiots—an institution that dirties and taints everything it touches.” - Hans Hoppe

"Virtue is more to be feared than vice, because its excesses are not subject to the regulation of conscience." - Adam Smith

Sources of infection in australia?

Self-service terminals, trolleys and baskets at the shops
Sunglasses/glasses/steering wheels (easy to forget to clean those after being out)
Mail and parcel deliveries, especially plastic-wrapped
Junk mail deliveries (shiny brochures ... the virus can probably live on those for a few hours.)
Government stupidity.

I sewed up a couple of masks tonight (I have a sewing machine and actually use it from time to time.) They came out fine, so I'll make a few spares for friends/family who I might not see for weeks anyway.

I dropped eight off at my neighbor's yesterday to take to the hospital she works at. Have 10 in process right now. I guess my new routine is an hour of HGTV in the afternoon cutting material. 11 year old is helping with removing pins, snipping threads and straightening paper clips.

It might look a bit odd, but couldn't jockstraps work in a pinch?
