Anyone moved from Twitter/X to Bluesky for advertising?
« on: November 27, 2024, 04:43:44 AM »
Reports seem to indicate that Bluesky now has 23 million users. Has anyone tried using it for promo purposes?  :icon_question:

It's on my agenda to try.  However, I found using Twitter for ADs was pointless.

I don't really promote books too much on Twitter.  I might mention them once in a while, but I think having the link to my website on the home page does more than anything else.

Social media (since I don't pay for ads) doesn't really do a lot for me as far as direct sales.  It's more about branding and getting to know people.  Facebook is my happy place, even with all the downsides.  A lot of nice people and easy to unfollow the posts you don't want to see.  (This is why it's my happy place. LOL)

It took me forever to finally get on Twitter--just joined a few months ago. So the prospect for me to try Bluesky isn't so great... but I'm curious...

I didn't go for TikTok because I didn't feel like I create enough videos and Twitter seemed easy enough to join. I post on there new releases from time to time now.

I've found FB best for interacting with readers, especially the UK ones, and Twitter for interacting with other writers - some of these help with book promotion in a subtle way. My early impressions of bluesky is that there seem to be more writers than readers there (tbough of course there's an overlap) but that might just be because I was first introduced to it by a writer, and he put me on a list with other author members of the UK crime book club, so those are many of the people I've found so far..

Thanks. I checked out your link and I joined. I will probably use it to advetise when I do a freebie.  :)

I checked your post out. Everything looks very Twitter-ish. I hadn't even looked at Bluesky before.
Is that post an ad or poset?
If you have success advertising on Bluesky, please let us know.

Bluesky was started by a few of the original Twitter developers. So, yeah, it's Twitterish.

I don't know what a "poset" is in this context. I know it as an acronym for" Partially Ordered SET.

"Folks interested in advertising on Bluesky will, unfortunately, need to wait a little while longer... The platform is not currently open to ads."

Posting is advertising on Bluesky.

I just put a quick post about "But Can You Drink the Water?" to see what would happen. I've got 4 followers and some likes within an hour, so I think it might be worth a try joining in the conversations. :)

"Poset" is just an embarrassing typo. :icon_redface: I meant "post"

Kind of interested, but my latest FB figures show that my ads are overwhelming clicked by 65+ age group and I imagine that's not a Bluesky demographic.
In fact, I need to get my crime/mystery/horror books in front of a (comparatively) younger audience somehow, so I'll look at it in the future.
I'm thinking tiktok, but while I have good video editing skills, curating the actual content is a mystery to me. AI?
Wonder if that question is worth a thread here ...

It probably is worth a separate question. I'd certainly be interested in hearing about people's experiences with Tik Tok.
