What are Amazon doing now? [Public] / Something going on with ranks again.
« Last post by TimothyEllis on April 13, 2025, 01:37:44 AM »
I've a book releasing today.

The AUS rank hasn't changed now in 14 hours, which is highly unusual.

The UK rank also hasn't changed in the last 8 hours or so.

The US rank has changed though, and always lags a long way behind the UK rank.

So either something is happening in the back end of the AUS and UK stores, or I've simply got no sales or downloads there from this release.

Both got an initial drop, and then nothing.

My AUS rank is 3107, and normally I'd expect to be down below a thousand and near the 600 mark like 6-8 hours ago, and be on the rise again now. No movement at all though since I started looking when I got up.

It's very unusual. And makes me wonder if I'm losing any chance for a decent rank for this book because of back end problems.

Anyone heard what's going on?

That's a new one. Kind of spooky.

It's actually an old one.  Goes back to at least 2010 and that was reportedly a resurgence so it's even older than that.

I guess if you don't hear from me again after Monday, it's because of this eMail I just received:

Quote
I know you don't know me, but believe me, your life is in grave danger. I'm writing this at considerable personal risk. Professionally, I shouldn't be doing this at all. You see, a contract has been put out on your life. I've been paid to kill you.

I'm contacting you because, from what I've observed, you seem like a decent, unsuspecting woman. Someone close to you ? someone you likely trust ? is behind this. They've paid for your murder. If you think this is some kind of sick joke, I urge you to reconsider. Keep looking over your shoulder.

You have 72 hours. Seventy-two hours to say goodbye to everything you know. Seventy-two hours left to live.

I have critical information about the plan to end your life. Information that could save you. If you dismiss this as a prank, if you decide to be stubborn and ignore me, then you'll see what happens when the clock runs out.

If you value your life, do not ? I repeat, DO NOT ? involve the police. Doing so will only make things far, far worse. Trust me on this. It will escalate the situation and ensure your demise.

Consider this your only warning. The choice is yours.

Nicholas.

Also, I'm apparently a woman now.  So, maybe if I wear a fake beard for the next couple days, he'll never find me.

This is for all subgenres of sci-fi except erotica. No nekkid man chests for this one. All mailing list sizes are fine, but only authors who send 100+ clicks per promo may have more than THREE ebooks.

Are you a member Lynn? I think membership used to give 5 revisions per month. It'd be worth it to me to rejoin ALLI if that's the case. I have to update 26 books on Ingram and membership is $100 vs $600 in Ingram revisions ($25 per book). (I discontinued membership last year only because of cost and because Ingram changed their publishing model to allow free publishing. The membership is  a good service otherwise).

Anyone who is a member, can you let me know if the 5 revision per month rule for Ingram is still available? If it's one book per month, it's not worth it to me.
