Amazon's Jeff B., google, facebook

Should be able to watch it on C-Span.

Then again, maybe not on C-span. It's on Fox business and the regular fox. Haven't checked the other news sites.

Jeff has gained weight. Maybe he's in quarantine too.

My opinion? It's time to break big tech up. Lots and lots of "not really proper" business practices being exposed.

Doesn't look like the congress managed to do any damage:

Apple stock up 1.9%
Alphabet (Google) stock up 1.3%
Amazon stock up 1.1%
Facebook stock up 1.4%

Amazon and Apple should not be counted among Facebook, Google, and Twitter. Amazon and Apple sell products. The other three peddle in information and have been acting in bad faith for a long time.
I'm onboard with private companies content-filtering their platforms, but only if those companies don't also enjoy legal protections from a statute predicated on content neutrality that exempts them from being responsible for content posted on their platform.
Can't have it both ways. Have free reign in filtering and choosing your content but fall under the same legal burdens other media do. Or, enjoy the protections of U.S.C. 230 and, per the statute, treat content neutrally.

Questions from the hearing:  ( I don't always remember who was asked which question.)

Does your company intentionally favor democrats over Republicans, and will they promise not to be partial in the coming election? They all said they would NEVER do such a thing!

Is it true that Amazon lowers prices on their in house products to put marketplace sellers out of business? Lots of evidence that that is exactly what they do. Denied!

If your company was forced to split divisions off as Microsoft was forced to do, would customers suffer? They all said yes, of course. The poor customer would have to go to different places to get what they want.

In this hearing the Democrats and the Republicans questioners were equally tough on the four extremely wealthy CEOs. I don't know what they will do. They have been investigating for two years already.

I wish they'd ask Bezos about Page Flip.

I think it should happen, but there's no chance with the current Congress.

Just a note about the supposed neutrality requirement of section 230. Under that theory, Tim could be sued for the multiple instances of false information relayed on this board and every time an author is mentioned, unless he gave up moderating any content.

Edit: I forgot Tim is Australian, so the above example applies only if Writer’s Sanctum is in the US. I just used it as an example people might relate to.

Yet, is it sad to think we need laws to insure we do the right thing. We know the difference between right and wrong in our own lives, so why doesn't big tech? The whole idea that an election is not left up to the voter and isn't unduly influenced by social media is repugnant.

I looked at that early on.

The forum is not actually in the US either.

Is it a myth that freedom of speech in the US does not apply to forums. Some say Americans are guaranteed freedom of speech no matter where we are.
