I must admit that I didn't do anything to celebrate today. My workplace (in Edinburgh) had a St Andrew's Lunch... yesterday (Thursday), because they insist in holding all staff events on a Thursday. They were offering Beef Stew & Dumplings. Shame it wasn't Mince and Tatties, instead.

It is time that St. Andrews Day was made a Scottish holiday - past time in fact. Hope the stew was good even if it wasn't stovies or mince and tatties.  grint

We all get free beer? But not haggis. Please, not haggis.

I happen to love a good haggis (which you cannot get in the US) so I'll take your share.  grint

Edit: For those who don't know, in most places, haggis would be considered a type of sausage. It is juicy and usually just a bit peppery, served crumbled up with potatoes and turnips on the side.

Oh, I love haggis.  If you're squeamish, you can always get vegetarian haggis which, to my uneducated tastebuds, actually tastes about the same. It's all the spices!  I wonder if the US would allow vegetarian haggis past the borders?

I actually didn't realise it was St Andrews Day - should have had a day off just because, but perhaps next year.

I agree about veggie haggis tasting about the same as the meaty kind (having been a meat-eater and now  vegetarian, I've tried both in my time). In my experience haggis is a lot more likely to put in an appearance for Burns night than St Andrews Day, which hasn't really got any less low-key over the years.

True enough about haggis traditionally making an appearance on Burns Night. I have never had it for St Andrews Day.
