Broke 2000 words today. First time I've done that in a long time. I feel like a rock star.
I think I just needed a break from Wheel of Fire, frankly. I've started a new story, and I'm trucking along, and I think it's because it has allowed me to shift gears. Also, this one's in first person, so maybe that helps. I've always had an easier time writing in first person, though one might not think so due to most of my published stuff being in third.
Anyway, it was a productive session. Yay for me.
Why write in third if your mind easily works in first?
I tend to go off on tangents when I write in first person. I end up deleting a lot more words.
Also, third is better for switching between different POVs, or at least it is for me. I've even tossed in some Omniscient Third on rare occasions, something that would be a bit more jarring when sandwiched between first-person scenes than between third-person scenes.
For the record, I like both equally. I just like them for different reasons, and there's a time and place for each of them. My first self-published story,
Buddy, is in first-person. Everything since has been in third. Right now is the time again for first, it seems. I'll ride this train for a little while and see where it takes me.
