Boxset covers, 2D vs 3D, and stuff
« on: March 27, 2021, 01:41:17 PM »
So I'm a newbie with book collections. I'm excited about releasing a compilation!

I'm wide and from what I've gathered, Ibooks requires 2D while Kobo suggests 2D. I have a 2D and 3D cover set ready to go. I've also researched past posts and seen some writers suggest 2D is actually more profitable. Some use 2D for Amazon. What do you guys prefer?

BookBub only accepts 2D covers when applying, so I've read. True?

Preorders?? Is there a point to running them for a book collection?

I only use 3d on Amazon. Everywhere else is 2d.

However, since Bookbub gets the cover from Amazon, mine are all 3d on there, and I've run worldwide BBs on a book with a 3d cover with no problems.

Thanks, Simon. Yeah, it seems BookBub doesn't care anymore about 2D vs 3D. After I sent this post, I noticed a 3D cover on the day's sale. I was looking at a thread in 2017.

If you could, let me know why you chose 2D everywhere else. Is it for better sales, BB specifically, rules, or some other purpose??

Pretty sure it's because the other stores don't allow 3D covers.

Before you decide, I would check the box sets in your genre. I'm seeing some genres moving towards 2D covers and away from 3D covers.

iTunes doesn't like 3D, or at least it didn't when I put out a boxed set.

Smashwords doesn't allow 3d covers. I don't think Kobo allows them.  Google does, so I use them there.

Just to be clear, I'm only talking about my box sets. I wouldn't use 3d covers for my regular novels or shorts.

I'm not fussed either way, as I create the 3d covers myself in Blender but still have to make a regular 2d cover. I can use either no problem.

Thanks all of you. Easiest way without fuss might be for me to just use 2D everywhere else but Amazon. I'll think about it.

What about preorders? Is there any benefit at all in discounting or selling a preorder boxset for a trilogy?
