Interesting bit of marketing trivia

One of my favourite authors, Stuart MacBride, has recently posted on his Facebook page that he never, ever posts on his page, in fact he can't even start a page of his own (because FB thinks he's impersonating himself and blocks it) and all the posts are created by his publisher's marketing team.
And that he's always very uncomfortable with that team pretending to be him, and has asked that they stop.
Plenty of high-profile authors have marketing people handling their social media, but you'd always expect "personal" posts to be penned by the actual author. Interesting to contemplate how prevalent this practise might be.

I suspect a lot of large publishers do this with A list authors. I have to admit that, if I were in that situation, I'd be fine as long as the publisher wasn't doing weird stuff.

Some people really like social media. Others don't. For authors who don't, having someone else handle social media could easily sound like heaven.

However, the reality of modern publishing is that a lot of publishers are cutting back on those kinds of services. Authors are often expected to do more of their own promotion than they were in the past.
