Bug fix.
« on: February 20, 2025, 03:20:11 PM »
After the forum was migrated to a new server, it seems one of the settings wasn't updated.

The result was attachments for PM's no longer working.

I've fixed that now.

If there's anything else not working for you, let me know.

There is an issue for some of >> being replaced by something else for some people, but as far as I can tell, it's not a forum issue, but the character not being available on the computer displaying it. The only fix I've seen is finding a font that has the character, and installing that font on your computer. Not having the issue myself though, I can't test that fix.

I sometimes see odd question marks, but my display fonts appear to have full character sets, and the corrupted part doesn't seem to be exotic.

That said, it's not really a big deal. The occasional visual anomalies don't bother me.

Are you on win 10 or 11?

I'm on 10, and not seeing anything odd.

I'm on Win 10 and, like Bill, often see ? marks in place of various punctuation marks, espec for material that appears copied from another source such as newspaper.

I remember thinking the question marks might be quotation marks. But if the issue were a character set problem, you'd expect it to apply only to special characters, and since those require more effort to type in, you wouldn't expect to see them in most posts.

I think I've also seen problems with apostrophes, now that I think about it. But of course, now that I'm looking, I can't immediately find any. Sigh!

I'm on Windows 11.

FYI - I wasted an hour with MS support - They agreed a recent update(s) re-intoduced the issue and recommended uninstalling the update(s).

I'm going to ignore the annoyance.

And they wonder why people like me think the updates for 10 coming to an end is actually a good thing. No more update corruption.
