Ingram Spark is no longer charging setup or revision fees
« on: April 28, 2023, 06:33:19 AM »
Just got this message by email.
Apparently it's effective May 1st.

(My assumption is that this is for paperbacks. We'll get more info with upcoming notices in a week).

That's great news. It's the only real reason I haven't bothered using them.
Don't rush me.

Yeah, on the whole, Ingram creates a nicer quality paperback than Amazon (not always). And they're better selling wide. It's a big move--maybe their free month this month led them to do it? But we still haven't heard all the details.

The email I got from ALLI suggested that the free revisions language only applies to the first 60 days. I've been too lazy to check, though.

But they're now going to charge a 1% distribution fee for *every single sale*. If your book actually sells decently well, this is bad for you in the long run.

Ouch, yeah. There's the catch.

Some quick math shows this change will be a big boon to smaller publishers.

Right now, I earn less than $5 a book going direct to Barnes & Noble. And can't even get there with Amazon's expanded distribution. But Ingramspark set to a 30% discount would net me an additional $3+ per sale at Barnes & Noble for a paperback. A one percent fee on a $20.99 book is only $0.2099.
