Book Talk [Public] / Re: What message does this send?

The message it sends is that books have little resell value.  Here in America, there are places where trains are routinely looted, and the tracks are covered with the stuff left behind.

Fun fact: my father commuted to work via I-285 for many years.  He saw all sorts of things spilled on the interstate.  One particularly memorable spill was a truck carrying beehives.  The bees got sucked into the car's vents, so Dad had to pull off on the side of the road and get out of the car until the bees flew out.

Cattle have escaped from their vehicles on occasion:

What does this tell us - apart from it being a good idea to mark boxes and postal items as books to avoid them being stolen😉?

Hoping they are not school books as schools open here today.🤨

It seem to be universally acclaimed.

I can't wait to watch it.

I thought I'd start a thread to discuss one of the best literary and artistic achievements in decades.

The story is straight up Shakespearean and the animation is beyond groundbreaking.

And the characters, Jesus...I'm pretty sure I need therapy now.

Have you watched it?

What did you think?

What do we know about who sees movies? Because we know that most book readers are women. I don't think this trailer appeals to women at all.

The trailer shows no personality. It doesn't ask an important question or set up an important conflict. At most, by the end, we realize that the guy may have control of time and risked his life to prove it. But he's not a conventionally attractive, physically appealing guy, and we know nothing about his personality or situation that might make him appealing emotionally.

A while back, I gave up wasting my time on movies made by men for men. Funny that supposedly this story could be about a woman. If she's important to the story, she should be in the trailer.

I haven't seen the movie yet, and I don't know if I will.  The reviews so far have not been encouraging.

Glad you mentioned Arcane. I'm waiting until the series is complete before watching it (I hate waiting for new seasons to drop).

I get it. They're doing the three episode (Acts) release like last time. I couldn't wait.

This show isn't getting the recognition it deserves, probably because it is a 'cartoon', but the animation is groundbreaking - looks like nothing else. And the story is nothing short of Shakespearean. Their portrayal of psychosis/schizophrenia was incredible.

The whole thing is just amazing.

The folks I follow universally love Arcane. The art, writing, color palatte, etc. The whole thing.

I can't wait to watch it.
