While I haven't gotten any five star reviews out of this, I have gotten some 4 and 3 stars. So I got honest opinions and nothing I would consider negative.

There's been a few more sales as well, but from some of the comments I got on the reddit thread I knew it could take several weeks before they had time to read the first book so I believe I could still see some follow through even in December.

What are Amazon doing now? [Public] / Re: What is an 'Editors Pick'?

Lotta Apub books are Editor Picks.

Quite the coincidence...

Seriously, though, where are the ethics in publishing? Amazon should not label books from their own imprints as Editor Picks as of their editors are objective observers.

That's exactly how I feel when I see their shenanigans. Don't they already put their foot on the scale more than enough?

That being said, I'd gladly take an apub imprint deal and never whine about them ever again. :-)

As for ethics... that's for us plebes. Heaven forbid your grandma's roommate reviews your book.

Bar & Grill [Public] / Re: 50+ words a day...no matter what!

If I would have written 40 more words yesterday, I would have just beaten October's daily average and 1,314 more words total would have beaten October's daily word count.  As it is, my daily word count average was down from October by 0.10%.

Downside is that a lot of the words I've written this year are for the lame space opera and I suspect I will probably end up editing out a large portion of them.  So, my count of viable words is yet to be determined.

...
Take a break and start over in January. Maybe Tiktok ads then. If you had video ads for FB, might be able to do similar ones there maybe.

I tried TikTok several months ago. TikTok is price competitive but the results are hit and miss. Mostly miss. The audience is not looking for something to read.

... Yet, we must persist or our books go right down the tubes. What else have you tried?...

Yes, persistence is a virtue and I need to cultivate a virtue.

Tired: Everything.

FB - Recent changes by "meta" has killed the video ADs that were getting clicks.  Now: Nada.
'Zon ADs - Pointless. I am convinced the algo is bias to higher bids for higher priced product.
Google ADs - Getting better. Highly targeted campaigns. One driving to Google Books has given me my first sales there.
Other - Several options have resulted in impressions and traffic to my sight, sales are iffy.

As Pemry said (and I agree), you definitely need to join a subreddit FIRST and post about that genre for a few weeks. Get into the community first. If you try to market yourself right off the bat, they'll ban you fast - before the ink even dries on your post! The moderators (and readers) are visceral in their hatred of marketing, and even if you become a good member first, you need to be VERY gentle in your marketing approach.

That said, it can work for freebies, but do note that almost none of those readers will pay money for even 1 of your other books.  ALSO NOTE: Reddit users are well-known for being snarky and judgmental. Expect a dozen bad reviews in exchange for your free gift to them.

So ... BEWARE and be careful.  If your goal if to rise in the ranks, go for it! But don't expect good reviews or any sales at all (for money).
Best o' luck.

I love my Vellum. Unfortunately, my very aged Mac won't run the upgrade or I would definitely buy it.
Sorry to hear it. The used MacBook Pro I have will upgrade to Catalina, but I hate messing with that kind of stuff so it won't get done in any hurry. Maybe if I hear a lot of raves about those "nice extra features," it will be incentive to bother.

Unfortunately I know that I can't run it. I do plan on buying a slightly newer used Mac next year so I can though. Thanks for the head's up that it's free as an upgrade. That's good to know.
