AMS Bid+
« on: September 21, 2018, 12:48:46 AM »
I run eight AMS campaigns, one each for eight books.

I wanted to test Bid +, so for one week I turned it on for four campaigns (for the best selling books) and paused the campaigns for the others.

The result for the week was a 35% increase in total AMS spend and a week-long slide in overall rankings and sale/borrows, even for the four books with live campaigns and Bid +.

My takeaway was running eight campaigns without Bid + is cheaper than four campaigns with Bid + and produces better results in ranking and sales.

I admit it was a crude test but the result is clear--in my case, Bid + is a money-suck.

Anyone else have experience with Bid + they'd care to share?

I didn't do a spreadsheet or specifically categorize data, but when it first came out, I tried it.

I found that my budgets burned themselves out faster and I got fewer clicks. I stopped using it.

That was right at the beginning, though. It's possible things have changed, and if data-oriented people can show value, I'd try it again. I'd have to be convinced first, though, because right now my opinion is that it is indeed a money-suck

I tried it for a couple of weeks and my price per click was way too high, IMO. I turned it off after that.

I tried Bidplus, but evidently I am too cheap. Once this new system was put in place, the number of impressions (and corresponding sales) that I had plummeted to practically nothing. I've basically given up on AMS except for a few very obscure, niche keywords (which I'll never tell).

The way I see it, Bid+ is probably the only way your ad is likely to show in the coveted single ad spot that appears directly below the blurb and above the normal also bought and sponsored ad carousels.

Obtaining that advantage is a huge boost to visibility. But it comes at a cost...
