Promoting on Apple
« on: March 11, 2019, 03:43:57 AM »
With no new book release since last September and no promotion since November, sales have tanked. I’m doing far better this month on Apple than anywhere else, including Amazon. Given that I’m wide via D2D, is there anywhere (other than Bookbub) where I can promote on Apple and how would I go about it?

TIA

I'm guessing you're asking how to promote exclusively on Apple?  No idea.  But I did a Freebooksy February 1st on my permafree, 1st in trilogy, contemporary romance, and had 500+ downloads that month on Apple.  So if you haven't done the usual promos since you went wide and perma free, you can pick up new readers everywhere now.  Good luck.

I've had some luck with Facebook ads that direct clicks directly to iBooks. I say luck because the results have been spotty and unpredictable.

I'm all sorts of excited about the Oprah book club thing so I went and asked D2D about promotions on Apple:
This is what they said:

We don't really have any tools for promotions aside from the Promo Pricing Tool on the View Book page. Apple does allow for promo codes which can be used for promoting your book on any of your social media or private channels.

Apple provides 250 promo codes for each book listed with them. This would be for the lifetime of the listing.  These codes can be requested through Draft2Digital for any book published to Apple through our site.  Please keep in mind that these codes cannot be replenished once they are all used on a book listing and they do expire quickly (28 days) so you will want to be sure you have marketing plans in place for them when they are ordered.  Here are the terms Apple states for these codes and you can order them using the instructions below.

Apple's terms state:

As a reminder of the terms of use for any promo codes, please note the following:
- Promo codes may only be distributed to persons in countries where your content is ready for sale on the Apple Books.

- All promo codes must be accompanied by the applicable holder terms, including an expiration date, for the country in which the code will be redeemed.

- Codes expire at 11:59 P.M. PT on the earlier of: (1) 28 days after the code has been requested or (2) the day before your distribution agreement with Apple expires.

- You may not resell the promo codes, nor accept any form of remuneration for the distribution of the promo codes.

- You may not use the promo codes to distribute any inappropriate content to minors.

Please see your agreement for more details.

Keep in mind that these cannot be replenished and they expire quickly. You may ask for them all, but we recommend using them in increments for planned promo periods to make the best use of these codes.  You may order them in any quantity and retrieving them only takes a few mins once we work your request. To obtain your codes, please send us an email with the book title(s) and the quantity of codes you would like for each book. We'll send you everything you need from there.
