Author Topic: What AMS/AA Title misspelled actually means, also I am an idiot.  (Read 2293 times)

So I finally got fed up with ads being rejected for the title being misspelled, so I asked them.

Got this:
Thank you for writing to us.
We've determined that your ad's custom text contains a spelling error that needs to be corrected:

Custom Text: September 1939 - As WWII escalates two lifelong friends will defy their families and religous convictions to be together. Available September 24th
Error: religous
The spelling of 'religous' is incorrect, it should be 'religious'.

Okay, they are right.  Also religious is spelled weird, my husband couldn't believe it, but that's English for you.  But here's the kicker.  I couldn't believe that I had spelled it correctly in some of my ads (though I had) but I also found five that I had spelled it wrong and were running.  Software Engineer husband said bots have bad days too.

So in summary TIL:
1. I'm an idiot.
2. I'll never misspell religious again.
3. I'm an idiot, but slightly smarter than a bot.

You may have done something idiotic, but you're not an idiot. Nah, I wouldn't classify a Spell-o as idiotic. You're fine.  :tup3b

It happens. One time I misspelled a word on the cover of a book. Five other people didn't notice. It made it all the way into my website before a fan pointed it out.

Don't beat yourself up too much. ;)
I write urban fantasy. There are girls in gowns and glowy hands on my covers.

Whenever something like that happens, I always remind myself that JKR forgot to mention Ron's eye color until Book 4 when alert fans pointed it out to her.

Thanks you guys.  I'm not really upset about it, but I won't make that mistake again.  :)

Ah, yes, the marvels of the human condition - we always learn more from our mistakes than our successes.

It's not a disaster, just a typo, and now fixed.

Nice self-depracation (grins in jest).  I would hate to add up all the mistakes, errors, or idiotic things I have committed.  Just a few weeks ago in my local library, I found a fantasy novel from a fairly well-known mainstream published author with the title and subtitle.  The subtitle on the front cover was spelled correctly.  However, on the spine the sub contained the word "Warlod" instead of the obviously correct version of "Warlord".
The librarian actually shushed me as I laughed heartily out loud. I found it incomprehensible that a main-stream author and publisher, with all of the quality checks they utilize, managed to allow a book with such an error to hit print and then be distributed!

I just got a copy of a print file from my formatter and found a character's name spelled wrong.
Word to the wise (?) changing the font does help you notice more errors.

My kids love to run to me when they find an error in a book they are reading.
It seems like there are more errors these days than forty years ago, but maybe that is just my old lady perception.
Also, get off my lawn.
