Choosing a genre for Fussy Librarian

I want to advertise my book (for FREE) on Fussy Librarian, but I'm not sure which genre to use.  It's an urban fantasy/mystery with some romance and my problem is they don't list urban fantasy...just fantasy.  So, would it be better to go with fantasy, mystery, paranormal romance, or romantic suspense?  Any suggestions?

You could always email them and ask them.  Give them a quick synopsis of the story and let them suggest a category.

From memory theres's a fair crossover between Fantasy and Paranormal readers, as I used to use both at once sometimes with Fussy, but I agree with Jeff - maybe shoot the Fussy team an e-mail, they're usually great at writing back

I choose fantasy for my urban fantasy. But sometimes I'll choose supernatural suspense. I never choose paranormal romance for that title because romance readers are sticklers for certain elements that my urban fantasy book doesn't have.

It is interesting that most promo companies do not have an urban fantasy genre (including BookBub).

That's tricky, definitely go with paranormal romance or fantasy. It depends on how much romance your novel has. A paranormal romance can be a slow burn, but should at least have a main character romantic interest plot arc. Fantasy can have romance, but the main plot is usually more focused on adventure.

Thank you for the responses!  I think fantasy makes the most sense.  It does have romance and it's mainly a mystery...but fantasy let's the reader know the main character is a vampire.  It's a story with a lot of layers. LOL

Ack!  I heard a rumor that Fussy Librarian had an urban fantasy category...but not for free books.  Now, I'm thinking I'll pay more and go with mystery/suspense.  It's not a FANTASY book, and I think that's what readers will expect.

It's super weird that Fussy Librarian (or any listing service) doesn't have an Urban Fantasy category because, as you can see from K-Lytics, it's THE single biggest genre in all of scifi and fantasy.

Pretty much all urban fantasy has a mystery element of some sort. Most of it has a romantic interest for the protag but it's typically low-key and strung out across the series. (some of this is re your earlier post)

Does it maybe provide an option to list in both fantasy and mystery? Some UF readers (like me, I've read... best guestimate is about 300 or so UF books) will look first and foremost in fantasy but mystery listings are definitely a thing too so it'd be cool if you could cover your bases with both.

I ended up choosing romantic suspense and used a different book.  Similar, but less paranormal elements.  Fingers crossed it does well tomorrow!
