Transferring excel sheet to mailchimp for newsletter

Anyone with problems with this? When I get new email subscribers by list from Booksweeps or other promotions the emails are easily transferred but not the names. What this means is I have to sort through every address individually and add the subscribers name. Why add the names? I believe I get better read-through with the reader's names. It's important for any individual correspondence too, of course.
Any ideas here? Anyone else have this problem and solved it?
