So I did. One click. It'll be interesting to see if anything comes of this for my books. YMMV.

Me, too. I'm hoping my books will be new to at least a few of SW readers.

Does anybody know if earnings (I live in hope) will be reported separately or just another vendor under D2D like Apple or Kobo?

I did the one click thing this morning. I guess we will see what happens.

It can't hurt to have another outlet for wide books. I don't know how much of a unique audience the SW store has left, but it used to have a decent sales volume overall.

Given the D2D merger with Smashwords, I thought this would happen, but it's nice to have it confirmed.

I've already had a free download of Clouds of Venus on Smashwords.  It happened today, so Smashwords data is apparently coming in in "real time" or something close to it.  Usually, D2D's sales results aren't displayed until the following day.  Interesting.  I suppose the difference is because Smashwords is now basically D2D's "house brand" rather than another company from which they have to wait for data to arrive.

I've been using Smashwords zll along and there was a small flurry of activity from their store yesterday, as if people had realised it was there at last! One of my favourite readers deliberately gets my books from there as she knows I get slightly more per book.

Careful... my book went over but NOT into my dashboard/profile.  This is their response:

----

Thanks for writing in. Consolidation of author profiles will occur in Phase III of the merger, which will be occurring next year. Currently, with Phase I, that simply entails distribution to the Smashwords store from Draft2Digital, as with any other retailer they supply. However, profiles are not yet merged, and from our system's perspective, they are two separate accounts:

Acct 1
Acct 2

===

Now I wait for the merge.

I'm not sure what you're talking about.  Did you already have a separate Smashwords account?  Is that what the "merge" is: combining your old Smashwords account with your new D2D account?

I've never had a Smashwords account, so I don't know what's going on for those who do/did.

I've had four free downloads on Smashwords since last night. I've never had a single book move on Smashwords before, so this is an improvement. I would guess the books are landing in some sort of new page on Smashwords, so I don't expect it to last as more people one click and fill the queue/carousel/whatever they call it there with "newer" books.

I had an existing Smashwords account.  When my new book was "ported across" a new account was created. Now they will combine the two accounts.  Yes, it is an unnecessary process.

I thought about it since I use D2D for Ibooks, and Scribd, but I just didn't see the point. I have a Smashwords account and going directly through them, the book goes live almost the instant I click publish. Besides, I've always liked the idea of keeping my Smashwords and Google Play as separate streams of income in case there's ever a glitch in payments. I would go directly through ibooks if I could, but not having a mac, I found it confusing. It was years ago that I tried it, though. Maybe it's easier now.

If the Smashwords store is the same as it was when I was using it, yes, books appear in chronological order on the homepage listing, with the newest ones first. I also had a flurry of activity when I first published there.

Their seasonal sales (assuming those continue) are also good times to get additional attention, as there seem to be at least a few site users who take a look at what's on sale.

I don't know when you last saw the Smashwords home page so this may be redundant information, but they made it very much more attractive a couple of years ago with several different categories e.g. Recent purchases, best-sellers, recent publications...  I usually check to see that everything I publish gets its turn on the front page. Their sales have been quite useful for me in the past and they occasionally used to doweird one-off promotions too.

For those of you already on Smashwords, like me, is there any advantage to transferring it over to the new interface via D2D?

I'm also wondering if all the Smashwords libraries will be moved over. I'd think they will be. There's a few sellers that aren't available on D2D, like Gardner's, that are on Smashwords (not to say I ever sold anything there :hehe).

I have a bunch of erotica I wrote years ago all up there. I've never bothered to put any novels on Smashwords. Erotica writers are the only ones I've heard of to make any sales there, but maybe it's better now.

The Smashwords end-of-year sale appeared on my D2D page. Does anybody have an opinion about the various discounts we can offer? Are 25% or 50% even worth considering?

I did 50%, but I always go for volume over profit. It's my first time doing a promo on SW.

For me, it the fact I don't have to upload individually to yet another store. Time savings.

I have an account on both. I anticipate a huge mess once they start consolidating it all under the D2D label. I actually had my SW account before I ever got one on Amazon. People made it sound like Amazon was some kind of monster vortex where you went and were lost for the ages, never to be heard of again.

Then I got smart and stopped listening to idiots. :D
