A writer that I follow just sent me this email.

 Hi,

It’s Sally from Writer in Overland Park.

I’d like to be able to refer customers to you, so I’ve added you to my network on Alignable, a site exclusively for business owners to network with each other.

Seems to be some sort of marketing site, but I never heard of it. I have 24 hours to respond to the invite, but I hate to just sign up for things. Anybody have experience with this?

Reeks of either she's been hacked, or associate marketing.

Either way, for me, BIN.

I especially wouldn't click on any link.
Genres: Space Opera/Fantasy/Cyberpunk, with elements of LitRPG and GameLit, with a touch of the Supernatural. Also Spiritual and Games.

It's a legit site but, for the love of all things good and precious in the world, run away.  Run away!

If I remember right, once you open an account, it is darned near impossible to unsubscribe from eMails and close your account.

Here are some of the complaints filed with the Better Business Bureau: https://www.bbb.org/us/ma/north-falmouth/profile/social-media-marketing/alignable-inc-0021-146157/complaints Aside from the first one, which sounds as if it may be a mistake, the others have a number of similar elements.

Thanks for the info. I certainly do not want my contacts bothered with emails. I deleted the message. The author that I followed has not made any other contact not even a notification of a new release. She probably doesn't even know this company sent out invitations to all her contacts.

IMHO, it's a good practice that if an app or site wants access to your eMail or address book, just say no.
