I finally got an international BookBub, but had lots of hassles with power cuts and no landline or ADSL because of cable theft. But I'm excited to say But Can You Drink The Water? has got to #1 on the free list in the UK and #2 in Canada.
I'm having to do most of my posting at 5 am to use the night time data on the dongle as the data I bought ended up with someone else (long sad story).

This link should take you to your Amazon store. http://getbook.at/ButCanYou

Follow the hilarious lives of the naïve Turner family as they emigrate from Liverpool to sunny South Africa. Laugh out loud as they encounter ‘crocodiles’ on the wall, strange African customs and unintelligible Afrikaans accents. Cringe with them as their visiting in-laws embarrass them in front of their new SA friends.

If you enjoyed Educating Rita and Shirley Valentine you will recognise Mavis Turner.

Runner-up in the Peter Pook Humorous Novel Competition

ETA It's also #1 in Canada and #3 in Australia. Grin

That's excellent!      Well done you !

We just got through our own series of powercuts down here in Cape Town (this is Masha du Toit, by the way, hiding behind a screen name) and then my husband decided to do some work on the lights so more powercuts, of a domestic nature this time round.

You got a bookbub, I'm so impressed. Shows you perseverance pays off in the end.

Thanks. It's just an international BookBub, but that's all I can afford with our exchange rate. I'm now battling with getting a new internet provider as the LTE in our area is only available through Telkom. I'm using a dongle and switching on and off. The add insult to injury I get a pop up to say there is unusual activity on my line and they want to know if I'm a human! Would have liked to explain in four letter words why there is unusual activity.  :icon_rolleyes:

I feel your pain.
I'm on a very limited mobile data link because the only LTE in our area is Telkom, and apart from the fact that we are right on the edge of the coverage area, I REALLY don't want to go into any business with Telkom again, and you can only get a 2 year contract anyway. No way. No thanks. No telkom.

Our neighbourhood has been trenched for fiber but there's some holdup and it's been nearly 6 months since they said it's "nearly ready".

Sigh.

I know what you mean about Telkom. I am using a Telkom dongle and buying data. Mweb said there would be fibre in my area in 2 - 6 months (I think it will be years!). But that will be R500 pm for everything an uncapped. I only pay R350 for the ADSL and 150 gb so to go to R500 is a bit of a jump.

I'll post my full BookBub results shortly. I got about 3000 downloads in the UK on the day it hit #1 but it was still #1 the next day as well.

BookBub results 6-9 April 2019

This was an international FREE BookBub for the UK, CANADA, AUSTRALIA  and INDIA only. I didn't do any other paid advertising and only used Readers in the Know, my Facebook pages, KBoards Book Bazaar, Goodreads and the KUForum in the UK to mention the promotion. The book is only available on Amazon. The target market is British expats (and people who know them ) who left the UK in the 1970s many of whom went to Canada, Australia, New Zealand or South Africa.

The BookBub was from 6-9 April

I set it for free on 5th April and had 247 downloads
When the BookBub began on 6th April I had 4682 downloads
The BookBub PREDICATION for a free promo was 3600
My ACTUAL TOTAL downloads over the entire promo were 8723

In the UK it reached:-
#1 Free in Kindle Store
#1 in General Humorous Fiction
#1 in Humour (Kindle Store)

In CANADA it reached:-
#1 Free in Kindle Store
#1 in Literature & Fiction (Kindle Store)

In AUSTRALIA it reached:-
#3 Free in Kindle Store
#1 in Humour Fiction
#1 in Contemporary Fiction (Kindle Store)
(It could possibly have been higher, but due to my frustrating lack of internet I couldn't do a regular check)

In INDIA it reached:-
#17 Free in Kindle Store
#2 in Literature & Fiction (Kindle Store)
(This also could have been higher because I didn't do a regular check)

Interestingly, it also did quite well on Amazon.com reaching #513 and #10 in humor, perhaps because SA buys through .com.

It also had at least one download on every other Amazon site, including Japan, Brazil and Mexico, and did quite well on some of them.
Amazon DE
#124 Kostenfrei in Kindle-Shop (
Nr. 1 in Fremdsprachige Belletristik
Nr. 1 in Comics (englischsprachig)
Amazon FR
n°272 des titres gratuits dans la Boutique Kindle
n°1 dans Contemporary Fiction (Boutique Kindle)
n°1 dans Comic dans Ebook en anglais

The reviews/ratings from my target market have been good, and I've had some reviews on Amazon sites that previously didn't have any. (But the usual poor reviews after a freebie from people who are not my target market . But that is always a risk with humour anyway.)

It even got into the top #100 paid in Canada on 11th April.
#96 Paid in Kindle Store
#3 in Humorous
#24 in Literature & Fiction (Kindle Store)

The page reads and sales have now surpassed the cost of the ad, so I am very pleased with the result. Any further page reads and sales will be a bonus.

Congrats, Jan. I read it quite some time ago and enjoyed it even though I never knew a Brit ex-pat.

Fantastic results.

Are you seeing a good follow through with your other books, or is it a bit too soon for that? I guess, fast readers could have read your freebie and be looking to read more by now.

Thanks. Yes, I've been pleased with the results. Have now made back the investment and doubled it  grint. It's a standalone book and quite different from my others, but I've been pleased to see some sales on those books as well, and even had a few page reads on my non-fiction. The Goodreads ratings have also increased by quite a bit.
