I get a 27% conversion rate on my landing page:

Is that reasonable, or should I make some changes?

Given how hard it is to get people to part with their email address these days, I'd say 27% is good, but I'm not sure what the industry norm is considered to be currently.

Two things you could do:
1) Make it evident which book it is they're getting for FREE.
2) Provide less detail of the story (take out the second-half of the description) leaving it unsaid creates more interest.
You can also replace the line at the bottom by using the word 'Private' in the title. (We all know you're not going to share it).
e.g. Join my Private List and get 'The AntiTerrorist' FREE

A lander's conversion rate will depend on the traffic source and value proposition. (Other factors influence conversion, but these are the ones most relevant to authors.)
My lander has converted at 70+% for the last few years.

Great ideas, thanks!

Much improved. However, you can lose the third paragraph. The two do the job perfectly. The 'I won't do anything heroic' as the final tag line does much to create anticipation... does he, doesn't he... kinda ...
