This is a wonderful and wonderfully human interview with Joseph Malik about his experience with his first two books:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1_Jc7jrHiY (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1_Jc7jrHiY)
The entire interview is great, but if you want to concentrate on just the marketing part, it starts at about the 33:00 mark.
A friend sent me the link to this particular video, but the Science Fiction & Fantasy Marketing Podcast channel has some great stuff:

Disclaimer: I don't know Joe from Adam, but I sure as hell don't ever want to get in a sword fight with him!

I'm a regular listener of the science fiction and fantasy marketing podcast. It's a great show.

Excellent.
Tom, do you have any recommendations for this sticky post? https://writersanctum.com/index.php?topic=1091.0 (https://writersanctum.com/index.php?topic=1091.0)
We're making a list of resources for self publishers, especially (but not only) for beginners.

You have most of my go-to resources already, but I added a few in a comment at that thread.

Hey, those were some really nice things to say. I had a great time in that interview. What a great group.
Cheers!

Did Joe's interview get taken down? I can't find it on the Science Fiction & Fantasy Marketing Podcast now.

It's there, and I just noticed I had the wrong link:

Thanks. For reasons that remain a mystery, youtube classified Joe's interview as restricted. (go figure). Can't watch it at work. :evil2:

I watched it last night when I should have been writing. Maybe I'm just jaded, but I didn't mind either of those. I enjoyed hearing about your success. I have to admit, I got a kick out of your recount of how you thoroughly you researched the things you wrote about. While there's a lot that I have done that flows into my writing, for things that I'm only passingly familiar youtube had been a lifesaver. Need to describe a big 19th-century battle? No problem, I watch Glory, Gods and Generals, or the Danish movie 1864 to get the setting firmly fixed in my mind. But I digress. I enjoyed listening to how you wrote your book and how you marketed it. Props.

The latest episode of the Science Fiction & Fantasy Marketing Podcast features an interview with Mur Lafferty. Quite different from Joseph Malik's, but well worth listening to:
