Title: Moderators are on duty.
Post by: TimothyEllis on September 21, 2018, 01:59:34 AM
I've appointed a first moderator, both of us trying it out for now, to be on call for the forum while I get some sleep.

If anything happens which needs moderator attention, hit the report button. The mod will be emailed.

Spammers will be removed asap after report.

If a thread deteriorates when I'm not here, the Mod is instructed to lock the thread until I'm back.

Mods wont be identified, and will use a unique username specifically for modding purposes.

The report button is there, and it's working well so far. So use it if need be.

Ah MultipleMan, an interesting name. Was this name chosen by the moderator or are multiple moderators going to share the same account?

Regardless, interesting idea separating personal from mod accounts... personally I was fine knowing the moderators more personally on the other boards but this should be fine.

Welcome aboard.

I chose it. Obscure Marvel characters FTW!
Come on, we all know you're Tim after a handful of no-doze washed down with four litres of strong coffee ;-)

A secret identity!  Interesting approach.   :afro:  Best of luck!

Great to know there's a mod on deck. (Hi, Hollis!)

Still looking for experienced mods.

In particular, one based in western US. Being Australian, I need to cover the whole time I'm asleep.

Possibly wouldn't hurt to have a backup Aussie as well, since life does intrude occasionally.

Kind of like Spiderman. "Oh, we're using our made-up names here."

Best idea ever. That way they can argue with their personal name, without coming off as abusing power or being immune from refutation because of their mod status.

I just want to thank people for reporting the spam posts! Keep it up!

I'm doing my part, bro.   :Tup2:

I thought that it just meant the mods won’t use their real names? But if the mods have other accounts they post through, then yeah, that’s definitely problematic.

I'm hoping not. The whole idea of mod usernames is to remove the status symbol of being a mod, and allowing moderation to be very separate from that person's normal forum activity.

I want the moderators to be seen and not heard, and the moderation to be largely so subtle, people dont notice it happening.

Possibly even argue with themselves.

Omg. That sounds exactly like something I would do.

A large amount of the time I think I'm talking to myself anyway.

That sounds nice! Hopefully there’s no public shaming like on some other forums. It would be nice to be treated like an adult for a change. For me, removing spam and hate speech should be the main job of a mod.

I like it! To easy to blame mods for every little thing and this leaves it open so they can actually play with the rest of us while still performing an important role.
