Many Soviet movies are posted on YouTube by their copyright holders, so you can watch them legally.

Back in my college days, I studied Russian and the department screened several older soviet era films.
A couple of them have haunted me to this day. I still recall the ending scene of Ivanovo Detstvo (My Name is Ivan/Ivan's Childhood, in English). Idi i smotri (Come and See, in English) was hard to watch, despite how well done it was.
