Though this link isn't discussing books per se, it is talking about what's going on with Amazon--which will impact books down the road.
Personally, I'm always leery when I'm ordering a product from China. Over the years, I've received some excellent products that were made in China, but I've also received a lot of crap. These days I'm gun shy. What puts me off immediately are lots and lots (sometimes in the thousands) of favorable reviews.

This and the flood of 'sponsored product' ads are two of the main reasons I buy very little from Amazon these days. I did buy some cheap Chinese electronics from them the other day, but wasn't exactly surprised to see that 14% of reviews were complaining that it failed within two months; it was the only model which users said did I what I needed it to do and I couldn't find it anywhere else.
