Title: The site's back up
Post by: Jeff Tanyard on September 25, 2018, 05:56:11 PM
No more White Screen Of Death.  Thanks to Timothy for fixing it.   :Tup2:

For a few hours, though... man... I was having palpitations.  Cold sweats.  Hallucinations.  I need my Sanctum, yo.   :embarrassed:

It's only up in Internet Explorer - my most hated browser. Firefox and Chrome are still being evicted.

Not for me, bro.  I'm on Firefox here.

(I'm not an IT wizard.  I don't know how any of this works.  I'm a pawn in the game of life.)

I've been brown bagging it all day.

I think the host is beginning to hate me. I just dont leave them alone.

Firefox and Chrome working for me.

But I've heard of one case who gets an error trying to log in, which I suspect is because the forum went down in the middle of a process. Still trying to get help on that one.

What happened? Only half an idea. In response to an ongoing problem, the host changed the version of php the domain was running, didn't tell me about it, didn't check to ask if things were fine after, and didn't check themselves.

Blam. Down. And it took them all f*cking day to figure that out!  :rant :HB

Not happy Jan!

I installed three browsers with the sole intention of getting onto this forum by any means possible. I was even looking at Opera as a fallback.... :(

I'm not sure if it would have worked with today's problems or not, but previously when the site was displaying as a white screen only, the text-only version of the site (https://www.writersanctum.com/index.php?wap2) was still working.

Nice to know, but probably not today. php itself was the main problem.

Had some news from the host.

Apparently they are still hammering the server copying sites back onto it, after the crash. Nearly finished I'm told. Which could mean anything.

Anyway for now, all we can do is grin and bare it.

I can confirm that didn't work this time.  I had it bookmarked and gave it several tries when I couldn't get on through the normal URL.

I can't login at all on my laptop with Firefox.  When I try I get this error message: "Your session timed out while posting.  Please go back and try again."  This message appears on an https page.

Additionally, before that, when I click the "Login" button, I get a message that "The information you have entered on this page will be sent over an insecure connection and could be read by a third party."  I get this even though the login page is on https. Is it trying to connect to http when submitting the login?

I can't get on through the text only (WAP) interface on my laptop either.

The only way I'm on now is via my iPad.

Nope.  Same problem.  I've tried clearing the cache and that had no effect either.

Now I'm in.  Had to nuke everything.  Clear the cache.  Relaunch the browser.  Clear the cache again just to be sure.

That's interesting.

I couldn't previously get through on Chrome, but using this I did, but then got the old version of the forum with the badly laid out header.

That's interesting.

Indeed.

In my opinion, I think I need to add Timothy's host to my list of providers to never use.

Agreed, I think they're cowboys on  :banana-riding-llama-smiley-em

And also I 've never trusted any server operator using 56.5k modems for their backbone. #justsaying
