Title: New to this forum; why isn't there a Welcome/Newcomers section or similar?
Post by: Routhwick on April 12, 2020, 02:01:48 PM
A few of you may or may not have noticed me (under my creative alias, Reginald Routhwick, or my real-life initials "DCJC") in past years on Google+ (now long gone), Reddit, Last.fm, DeviantArt.com, FurAffinity, Inkbunny, and more recently Steem(it)/Partiko. Already signed up here weeks ago as a veteran of KB, but couldn't find the time to start posting. Now that COVID-19 lockdowns are in the picture, I've decided to make the best out of that situation by focusing on my long-gestating creative projects. (Two children's book series, an array of maps, and a conlang.)

I wanted to properly introduce myself on Writer Sanctum with an intro post before moving on, but for whatever reason, I couldn't find a Welcome/Newcomers section. (Which the old KB had, and competitor AbsoluteWrite still does.) Wonder what the closest equivalent here is at the moment?

P.S. Happy Easter Sunday, folks.

I think we had one originally, but it wasn't used and sank under the cushions at the back of the couch.

Mostly, people do what you did, or they use their book announcements thread to do the introduction in.

The original WS crowd came from KB, and mostly knew each other already.

And this is the sort of place where people just dive into a thread somewhere, and not look back. The welcomes and intros often happen as part of first post recognition.

I can't say I've heard of Absolutewrite, but even so, there is no competition. People here post in a lot of places.

Anyone can start a welcome thread. Personally, I don't like the idea of the Admin jumping on people welcoming them all the time. I am a paid up hermit after all.

No one really cares about Absolute Write, but that's beside the point. You're here now, join in, post some relevant stuff. Or irrelevant, in the proper forums. :D
