Title: Facebook Advertising Query
Post by: NathanBurrows on May 27, 2020, 08:49:53 PM
Hi all.

So, I've got a low budget ad running to a UK audience for a military thriller. Targeting is pretty much spot on, I think. The ad text makes it clear it's a book, the cover's good and I'm happy enough with the blurb. I'm tracking link clicks through Readerlinks, and have over a hundred clicks to my Amazon page over the last couple of days. But nothing in the way of sales or increase in page reads over the norm for the book.

I know Amazon is sometimes slow in updating, but sales and page reads are registering on this and my other books. How long should I leave the ad running for before accepting that maybe there's an issue with it.

2 observations.

Facebook is mainly about awareness campaigns, not sales.

Covers don't work very well on Facebook.

100 clicks might sound good, but it probably is going to take a lot more than that to generate a sale.

Can you say who you aimed it at? For example, if you included India, you'll get a lot of clicks and zero sales, simply because India don't really buy eBooks yet, and people clicked to see if there was a paperback printed locally.

Thanks Timothy. I'm reading on a lot of FB groups that ads are working well at the moment - just not for me!

To clarify, the audience is UK based, male, interests are Kindle etc, and also UK military. I might look at seeing if I can narrow it down further to readers...

Nathan, I think your audience is too broad. Try starting with smaller authors and books/series in your genre as your targets. In the ad make it clear that the book is a military thriller. That should get you a warmer audience that talks about books like yours while on FB. That should increase your conversion rate.

Side note: 100 clicks isn't enough to determine if the ad is working. I usually see sales coming in spurts. Over the course of a week or a month the numbers even out and you can get a real feel for how many clicks/dollars it takes to make a sale.

Thanks Lu. I've turned the original ad off and created a new one with a tighter audience to see if that has any effect.

I'm currently running my ads on Facebook. I've got more than 100 clicks, but my reads and sale don't increase. I guess I have to be more specific with my audience.

Btw, I also included India before, but I decided to delete it after a few hours. At the moment, I have some authors' names, kindle readers, ebook readers and major marketplaces in my ads. I'll wait for a few more days to see the result.

Best regards,

JL

P.S. Here's the link of my ebook. Thanks a lot! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B088Q13SB2

You have to use affiliate links to really see what’s going on with your Facebook ads
