Title: Can anyone think of any post WW II books?
Post by: notthatamanda on July 24, 2020, 08:49:41 AM
I'm talking right after the war, GI Bill, PTSD (Not that they called it that back then) basically fiction books about the soldiers and families after the war. That's what I'm writing now and I need to figure out categories and look at books in that genre, if it is one. If not I guess I'll stick with WW II type themes. Thanks, Amanda

Glory for Me. It was a novella on which the movie the Best Years of Our Lives was based. Great movie.

Maggie is right on.
The resulting movie won the Academy Award.
Perhaps you could research best seller lists for late 1940s and 1950s.
The post war era was important because women were forced out of the work force  and back into the kitchen by their returning husbands.
A lot of adjustments had to be made by men and women.
The novel The Honey Badger has some good sections about that time period.

By the way, Glory for Me was written in blank verse so you might want to rent the movie.

Thanks, I'm trying to find books that will give me ideas on covers and categories. Most of the research was done before I started though I have to do the occasional google. :)
