Title: Word Challenge -- Friday thru Monday
Post by: idontknowyet on August 18, 2020, 02:34:16 AM
After a billion or so days in isolation, I decided to finally get working seriously again on my books. With a little over twenty thousand words last week I decided I need more.

Today I want to try something I've yet to be able to accomplish a 10k day. Now on many occasions I've gotten in the high sevens but no matter how hard I try 10k is elusive. Today's the day.

Join me and challenge yourself.
Let's motivate and encourage each other.

Set a goal and we'll work on it together.

I live in the future (timezone wise) and I'm done for the day at 5.6k. Not bad.

My best ever was a 17.5k word day, including a first pass edit on it all. It was a ghostwriting deadline. Never again!
The rest of this week I'm aiming for 6k a day or a little more.

Good luck hitting 10k!

Good luck! I might join in a little while. Gotta see where the day is heading. Kid is home from college (pandemic, of course) and I never knew college kids were so needy. I sure don't remember it that way as a former college student myself! :D

That was the slowest 1k ever 120299 and plodding along. Hopefully I'll start to get in a flow.

Just getting started. I'm challenging for 3,000. (Which is more than I wrote my entire last month so it's an actual challenge. I feel like I've forgotten how to write.)

Sending good vibes your way. Hope it's going well, idontknowyet!

I've had plenty of days like that, unfortunately! Good luck. Things can change quickly, so maybe you'll write more than you expect tonight!

As for me, I'm not making much progress. But I have fresh decaf so we'll see where this goes. :)

I finished a book yesterday and want to finish another next week (I only have around 18k left if the book doesn't go long). That means I need some big word count days.
I'm going to shoot for my ever elusive 10k goal.

What are you trying to hit?

I count the old-fashioned way - pages, not words.  Aim for 10 pages or approx 2500 words.  I'm slow and happy to be slow.  Also happy  to be old-fashioned.

Writing in a notebook is a totally different experience. I do both. Notebooks allow my words to flow different than the computer. I definitely think it's a tool all authors should use.

How goes your writing?

Starting word count for Sunday 140868.

Sorry it hasn't worked out today, but tomorrow is a fresh start! You can do it.

I'll join you in a challenge tomorrow. I'm going to take aim at 4,000 words. (I'll be starting around noon my time.)

I'm pretty sure I'll blow it, but I'm going to try anyway. I'm hoping I'm getting close to the end on at least one of my current wips. :)

The words are starting to flow and I found an additional 18 pages I wrote for the last book of this trilogy in another notebook. That made my day 3600 words to be transcribed. I will get this done!!!!

Instead of actually writing words I figured out what I needed to do to finish book 2 of this trilogy. Approx. 6k words and parts of 5 chapters.

Could finish today. Now all I need to do is get to it.  :tap

What are you working on today?

Well I went from 1k to 3k when I finally got down to it in less than an hour, but I've only gotten through 1 chapter. This book is going to run long. Why don't any of my books ever run shorter :(

How goes your words?

My brain refused to finish this book last night... doesn't everyone love it when your books go longer than planned. Got a bit over 4.5k and only finished 2 out of the 5 chapters.

I think I'm giving my brain a writing break today.
Goal for the day is to cold edit the last 90 pages of another trilogy.

I need approx 3000-4000 words to finish a short(ish) story and I'd like to do it today! (Sunday here)

So I'll be writing. Plan to start w/ 15 min sprints (I'm slooow with sprints but it keeps me focused and that's what matters) in about 10 minutes or so.

Happens to me all the time. Most of my projects go long. Really wish this weren't true!

I get fear of finishing. Cause then you have to publish. Which is at least as terrifying as it is thrilling, to me anyway.

If it hit that I will finish book 2 and start making some head way in book 3 of this trilogy.

Good luck!

I have tried different lengths of sprints. 20 m is my sweet spot, but some days 20 minutes feels too long so I go to 15. When I'm really into the writing, I sometimes move up to 60 m, but those days are rare lately. :)

Good job! I'm having to reread a previous story so I don't mess up my continuity. I'm just about done with that but it has taken longer than I expected and I'm currently sitting in my daughter's car outside Walmart.

I'm hoping to get back to my sprinting plans in a couple of hours after this unexpected delay!
