When I am going to publish my page it offers me a featured image, but I have no way to add the image. It gives me this:
Selecting a featured image is recommended for an optimal user experience.
Wordpress support shows a block outlined in blue that you click on to add the image. All I have is a thin blue line next to the text I cut and pasted here. I have right clicked, left clicked, moused over every box on the image which is in the post and I can't figure out what I'm supposed to do to add it.
Any ideas? Thanks for the help.

What theme are you using? It could be the theme does not support featured images.

Ah, I was wondering if it was something like that, or if it's because I have the free wordpress account. I have long forgotten my theme and don't know how to look it up. Thanks for the help.

Last time I did this I found they had move the set featured image and options for tags and categories into an almost invisible settings menu somewhere near the top right corner of the screen. Have you looked there?

Try a different browser. I've found that works when adding images to Mailchimp. Chrome is usually okay, but try Firefox if not. Good luck.

Is it wordpress .com or wordpress .org?

If it's Wordpress .com, I converted to blocks and it's SO much easier.
I wasn't a fan initially, but you can choose what type of block you want. Text, image, button (for buy buttons) etc. If you can convert to blocks, you can add a space (hit enter) then the plus sign will show for your block. Choose image, then you'll have a place to download. It will make it HUGE unless you size it, but that's easy to do.
Takes a few tries, but I updated my site...and I love the buy buttons!

wordpress.com and it was under settings like Cecilia said. I'll have to see when it goes live if it does what I expected. Thanks for the tip on the browser too Gerri, but I didn't need it today. I think I am using the block editor.
Thank you all for helping.
