My experience including all books in a series in a group ad pretty much had the same effect, or seemed so to me.

Defense advertising is a well known tactic.
The only way to know if it works for you is to start or stop then look at the results.
I'd rather have that real estate for my books than give it to someone else. It's ridiculous that the first two spots in the Amazon search are sponsored products, but, alas, it is the case.
I use my name and books as KWs but only if I'm already AMSing. I wouldn't set up an AMS campaign just for defensive advertising. I'm sure I'm paying for some sales I would have gotten for free. But that's a price I'm willing to pay for longer series.

The thing that gets me about this is the article is built on the premise that there is no also-bought or also-viewed slider on the page.
And it also assumes that the sponsored slider is the primary way people find new books to read.
Both of which, as far as I'm concerned are 100% wrong.
The whole concept advocated here as far as I'm concerned is shooting off both feet, and happily paying Amazon to be able to do it.
Did Amazon write this article?
That was my thought as well. It sure reads like it.
