Title: Anyone used Kindle Create for a children's book?
Post by: Jan Hurst-Nicholson on July 12, 2021, 05:11:42 AM
For my previous books I just uploaded my Word document and made my own chapter contents and inserted illustrations etc. But that was a number of years ago. I'm considering using the Kindle Create for my next two books, but don't want to give myself more work by learning how to use it.  :icon_rolleyes: Does anyone have any advice on possible pitfalls, or is it easy-peasy?  :)

Jan, a friend of mine used a kindle kid's book creator to make a photobook and she said it was super-easy: https://www.amazon.com/gp/feature.html?docId=1002979921

Kindle Create is very easy to use. Stuff isn't very customizable, but it's hard to mess stuff up in it if you just go along with the program and do things the way it wants you to.

That's good to know.  :)

I'm finally getting round to working out the publishing for the book while I wait for the illustrations. I'm trying to decide on a font for the children's book. It's a picture book of about 1300 words. I've looked at suggested fonts on various websites and they are not ones that I recognise. I've also read that one should stick to something like Times New Roman as fancy fonts can mess up the conversion when you upload to Kindle. I'm thinking of using Baskerville Old Face 14 or 16. Has anyone had a problem with any particular font?
Thanks in advance.  :)

Baskerville is a nice one for a children's book. Century Schoolbook is, too. You can't really go wrong with any font with easily-read letterforms.

Thanks. I was checking out books in our bookshop and at least one uses Garamond. As long as children find it easy to read, and the Kindle Creator recognises it, I suppose it should be okay. :)
