Title: What is an FTP account on Kobo?
Post by: notthatamanda on September 30, 2021, 10:03:05 PM
My Kobo page is cluttered with half audio books that aren't mine that show up before all but one of my books do. I am attempting to email Kobo on the contact us page but it won't except my inquiry without a FTP account number and I have no idea what that is.

Thanks for the help,
Amanda

I don't know, either.

In the past when I've contacted them, I've just emailed [email protected] from the email account that I registered my account with.  I'd recommend that if you haven't already tried it.

Thanks Jeff, I'll do that.

Well they got back to me but they aren't going to do anything about it.

Dear Amanda "Smith"
Unfortunately we are unable to change the results on the search page - these audiobooks are appearing because there is a narrator named "Amanda Jones" and a narrator named "Evelyn Smith" in these titles.

So you don't really get an author page in Kobo, you just get search results.

FYI in case this ever becomes an issue for anyone else.

Don't feel too bad. There's a neo-nazi (a genuine Hitler worshiper) whose pen name is the same as mine and his sole published book under that name shows up in a search on my name, but fortunately, at the very end of the list...

Thanks guys. I don't really feel bad, just more flabbergasted. It seems rather simple to me to have an author page so if a reader/buyer of books clicks on the author name they get that author's books. Anyone who cllicks on my name would think I only have one book, but I'm past kidding myself that's why I'm not wildly successful at this.

My understanding is that Kobo doesn't actually have author pages. If someone searches for your name they'll see whatever comes up for that search query, usually your books and those from people with similar names. And if they click on your name, it will open a new search with your name as the search query. But there's no such thing as author pages there.

Also, I ran into the whole FTP field when I submitted a tech support issue a few days ago, and I put a question mark in, and I was able to submit the form with that. I still don't know what FTP means in that context. (I think of the old File Transfer Protocol).

I've decide to pretend this is the reason I never have any followup sales on Kobo. Anyone buying my book on a promotion will only see book 2 of my WW2 historical fiction and the rest of the first search page is filled with completely unrelated audio books. I'll see if I can find and get accepted to a Kobo sale on my WW2 book 1 and see if I get any follow ups on book 2
