Title: Help learning to Mailchimp
Post by: Hopscotch on March 06, 2022, 02:36:15 AM
Am considering Mailchimp for a newsletter and would appreciate hearing any advice or about any problems from those who use it.  Espec any workarounds to make it easy to manage for a social media novice.

Here's my advice. Don't use Mailchimp. I looked at it and walked away. Too expensive once your mailing list reaches a certain level. I've been using MailerLite for a few years now and have never had a single issue.

Using it as such? Nope. I found it stupid easy to use and it's been reliable.
But when you set it up, use your own sending domain. It'll reduce chances of your emails being spammed by recipients' ISPs. I set mine to my publishing company's domain.

This.

I had been using Mailchimp since 2013. They changed their system so you could only have one list (audience) on the free subscription, although mine were still there from before. I found it complicated in the first place, and I'm not a novice, but once they messed about with it, it was worse.

My main reason for hating MC is that I got to 1600 subscribers and hadn't sent out an email in a while. When I did, three hard bounced. MC decided I must be fiddling the books or something and they restricted my account. So it's my fault that three people changed their email address without telling me. They also don't take the unsubscribes off so if you get over 2000, you are paying for subs who are no longer with you.

Worst of all, I told them I didn't like the way they did things and I was moving somewhere else. When I downloaded my subscriber list, over 1000 of them had vanished. Instead of having 1598 subscribers, I was left with only 598.

As to other services, I'm confused. I moved to Get Response, which seemed good but there are two people on my list who I know personally and they have said they aren't getting my newsletters. I am not keen on Mailerlite either, so I'm a bit stuck at the minute.
